Monza 2-4 Napoli: Partenopei score thrice in six second-half minutes to defeat hosts and close in on European spots

Napoli showcased an astonishing demonstration of mercilessness as they managed to overturn a halftime deficit and triumph over AC Monza 4-2 in an enthralling Serie A encounter at the Stadio Brianteo.

However, it is worth noting that the reigning champions have now gone 10 league games without maintaining a clean sheet.

Napoli dominated the opening nine minutes, but a long ball to the left side of the box found Zerbin, who crossed for Milan Đurić to score his first goal for the Biancocelesti, overcoming Juan Jesus.

Less than 10 minutes later, a scramble in the box ended with Giovanni Di Lorenzo shooting over the bar, serving as a warning for Monza.

A VAR review in the first half, after Napoli had regained control, saw Daniele Doveri reject Victor Osimhen’s penalty claims.

The second half began tensely for Monza, as Cyril Ngonge fired into the corner from an offside position, only for the goal to be disallowed.

Napoli finally equalized through Osimhen on 55’, with Matteo Politano setting up André-Frank Zambo Anguissa for the cross.

Buoyed by the goal, Napoli then showcased their shooting skills, taking the lead just before the hour mark with an unstoppable volley from Politano past Di Gregorio.

Not to be overshadowed, Piotr Zieliński then extended Napoli's lead with an equally impressive strike.

A series of passes just outside the Monza penalty area concluded with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia passing the ball back to the Polish midfielder.

Zieliński swiftly turned and fired a left-footed shot into the net from a distance, leaving Monza's goalkeeper helpless once again.

The match, which was already intense for both commentators and players, took a sudden twist as Andrea Colpani charged forward after the restart.

He skillfully maneuvered past Juan Jesus on the right side of the box before curling a shot into the far corner with his left foot, possibly with a slight deflection as it evaded Alex Meret's desperate dive.

Although this goal set the stage for an exciting finale, Napoli quickly reestablished their two-goal advantage. Osimhen flicked the ball to Di Lorenzo, who broke through the Monza defense once more.

Despite Di Gregorio's initial save in the one-on-one situation, he could only parry the ball into the path of Giacomo Raspadori, who calmly slotted it home with his first touch.

Napoli secured a memorable victory in the later stages of the match, contrasting with the overall disappointing season. This win has kept their chances alive for a 16th consecutive year in European competition next season.
