Morocco beat Cameroon 2–0 to reach AFCON 2025 Semifinals

Host nation Morocco continued their impressive Africa Cup of Nations run after defeating Cameroon 2–0 on Friday night to book a place in the AFCON 2025 semifinals at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Goals from Brahim Diaz and Ismael Saibari secured another dominant performance from the Atlas Lions, who remain unbeaten in the tournament and are yet to concede a goal in the knockout stages.

Diaz extends scoring streak

Morocco took control from the opening minutes and were rewarded in the 26th minute when Brahim Diaz split Cameroon’s defence before calmly finishing to give the hosts the lead.

The Real Madrid midfielder has now scored in five consecutive matches at AFCON 2025, confirming his status as one of the tournament’s standout players.

Cameroon struggled to match Morocco’s tempo and failed to create any clear openings before the break, as the home side’s midfield controlled possession and dictated the pace.

Saibari seals the win

The Indomitable Lions pushed harder in the second half and briefly thought they had earned a penalty after Bryan Mbeumo went down in the box, but the referee waved play on.

Morocco remained composed and were ruthless when another chance arrived. In the 74th minute, Ismael Saibari finished clinically to double the lead and put the contest beyond Cameroon’s reach.

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou enjoyed a quiet night, with Cameroon failing to register a single shot on target throughout the match.

Morocco march on

Morocco topped Group A ahead of Mali before beating Tanzania in the Round of 16, and they now move one step closer to lifting the AFCON trophy on home soil.

The Atlas Lions will face the winner of Nigeria vs Algeria in Wednesday’s semifinal, also to be played in Rabat. Earlier on Friday, Senegal reached the semifinals after a narrow 1–0 victory over Mali, while Egypt and Ivory Coast are set to battle in another quarterfinal clash.
