Morocco cruise past USA in dominant display to secure semi-final spot

After emerging as the leaders of a group that included Argentina, a confident Moroccan team initiated the game with purpose. Ilias Akhomach from Villarreal forced Patrick Schulte to make a brilliant save within the first 15 minutes, following a well-executed short corner routine by his teammates.
As the match progressed towards the half-hour mark, Morocco's persistent pressure paid off when Nathan Harriel conceded a penalty for fouling Soufiane Rahimi. The Al Ain forward swiftly converted the penalty, scoring his fifth goal of the tournament with a composed finish into the bottom corner.
After a challenging first half, the Stars and Stripes realized the need for improvement to secure their first Olympic semi-final appearance since 2000. USA coach Marko Mitrovic experienced a mix of encouragement and frustration as his team missed a golden opportunity just before the hour mark.
Walker Zimmerman directed a high cross towards his defensive partner Miles Robinson, who unfortunately missed the target with his left-footed shot from a promising position.
The missed opportunity proved costly as Morocco swiftly increased their lead after attacking down the left wing. Bilal El Khannouss and Abde Ezzalzouli set up Akhomach for a goal at the near post.
Morocco continued their dominance by scoring a third goal through Achraf Hakimi, who struck a precise shot from the edge of the box.
El Mehdi Maouhoub sealed the victory with a late penalty kick.
Morocco will now prepare for a semi-final match against Japan or Spain, while the USA will focus on hosting the Olympics in 2028.
