Mourinho sees red as Fenerbahce fight back to secure a hard-fought draw against Manchester United.

In their third consecutive match in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) this season, Manchester United relinquished a lead once again, resulting in a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahçe at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. This outcome signifies that the team has secured only one victory in their last 11 European encounters.
Fenerbahçe's manager, José Mourinho, who previously led United to victory in this tournament in 2017, was equally in need of a win as his counterpart Erik ten Hag, who is under considerable pressure.
Mourinho's strategy involved an aggressive approach, as he instructed his team to press the visitors, who seemed content to absorb the pressure.
Although this tactic posed risks for the Red Devils, it proved effective when they took the lead in the 15th minute with their first attempt on goal.
Manuel Ugarte initiated the play by regaining possession in midfield, and the ball eventually reached Alejandro Garnacho on the left flank.
Garnacho's cutback found Noussair Mazraoui, who was unexpectedly positioned in an attacking midfield role, and then Joshua Zirkzee, who set up Christian Eriksen to strike into the top corner.
Marcus Rashford nearly extended United’s advantage shortly thereafter, coming close after cutting in from the right, but the Yellow Canaries soon regained their composure.
The visitors owed a debt of gratitude to Ugarte, who made a crucial block to thwart Dušan Tadić’s goal-bound shot, while goalkeeper André Onana executed a remarkable double save to deny two headers from Youssef En-Nesyri.
However, just four minutes into the second half, Onana was powerless to stop En-Nesyri, who headed in from a brilliant cross by Allan Saint-Maximin.
This goal ignited the already passionate home crowd, who became incensed when a penalty was not awarded following Ugarte’s challenge on Bright Osayi-Samuel, leading to Mourinho receiving a red card for his protests.
Tension mounted moments later when Diogo Dalot broke free on the right flank, but despite having three teammates available for a simple finish, the full-back overhit his cross.
The match remained open for either team as it approached its final moments, yet it was Garnacho who emerged as the most menacing presence on the field.
His low shot prompted a straightforward save from Dominik Livaković, while his counterpart on the wing, Antony, was carried off on a stretcher, resulting in a lengthy interruption that diminished the intensity of the game and ultimately led to a draw.
This result marks a disappointing beginning to the UEFA Europa League for United, who have now gone a year without a victory in European competitions.
Meanwhile, the hosts maintained their unbeaten streak in this tournament, although Mourinho's record against former clubs has now extended to just two wins out of 18 encounters.
