The Denver Nuggets are well aware that they will face fierce competition as the reigning champions. They experienced the intensity firsthand on Saturday night when they suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Oklahoma City in the final seconds.

The Dallas Mavericks are on a hot streak, winning five out of their last six games. Their latest victory was an impressive 131-120 win against the Portland Trail Blazers, with Luka Doncic leading the charge with a triple-double performance of 40 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.

This marked Doncic's fifth triple-double of the season and the 61st of his career. He has been a standout player, currently ranking second in the NBA in scoring with an average of 32.7 points per game.

Despite missing key players like Kyrie Irving and Dereck Lively II due to injuries, the Mavericks have been able to maintain their momentum. However, they will face a tough challenge against the Denver Nuggets, who are looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss.

The Nuggets had a late-game collapse against the Oklahoma City Thunder, allowing them to snatch the victory with a last-second jumper. Denver is determined to redeem themselves and secure a win against the Mavericks.

This matchup will be the second of three games between the two teams, and a win for Denver would give them the advantage in the season series. In their previous encounter, the Nuggets emerged victorious with a 125-114 win.

In addition to Doncic, there are other players who are also putting up impressive numbers. Jokic, for instance, has achieved 10 triple-doubles for the seventh consecutive season, making him the first player in NBA history to accomplish this remarkable feat. Throughout his career, he has recorded a total of 115 regular-season triple-doubles, narrowly missing out on another one by just four rebounds against the Thunder.

Prior to Saturday, the Nuggets had secured three consecutive victories, with Jokic receiving significant support from the rest of the team. The bench players have been particularly outstanding, averaging 47 points over the past two games. Furthermore, the return of Jamal Murray has provided an additional boost to the team. Despite missing 14 games due to a right hamstring strain and a sore ankle, Murray has been averaging 18 points per game.
