Nadal to play for Team Europe at Laver Cup as retirement looms

Rafa Nadal, aged 37, is set to participate in the upcoming Laver Cup as confirmed by organizers on Monday.

This tournament may mark the end of Nadal's career in tennis, as he has been dealing with injuries over the past two years and has expressed his intention to retire after the 2024 season.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion will be making his fourth appearance at the Laver Cup, a prestigious event that sees six top European players face off against six players from the rest of the world.

Nadal's last participation in the Laver Cup was in 2022, where he partnered with his long-time rival Roger Federer in what turned out to be Federer's final match.

In a statement, Nadal expressed his excitement for the upcoming tournament, highlighting the special memories he has from previous Laver Cup editions and emphasizing his eagerness to seize every opportunity at this stage of his career.

He looks forward to joining Team Europe in Berlin and contributing to their quest to reclaim the Laver Cup title.

Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev are just a few of the top-10 players who will be representing Team Europe in this year's competition in Berlin from September 20th to 22nd.

Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg expressed his admiration for Rafa, calling him an absolute legend and a true champion in every aspect of the sport.

Borg also mentioned that having Rafa on the team was a personal goal for him in his final year as captain, and he is excited that Rafa has accepted the invitation to join them in Berlin.
