Naomi Osaka gets walkover as Zheng Qinwen falls to Leylah Fernandez at Qatar Open

Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, advanced to the quarter-finals after her opponent, Lesia Tsurenko, withdrew due to an elbow injury.

She will now face Karolina Pliskova, another former world number one, as she continues her comeback from maternity leave.

This is Osaka's first WTA quarter-final since reaching the final of the Miami Open almost two years ago. Pliskova, who recently won her first title in four years, fought back from the brink of defeat to defeat Linda Noskova.

Despite Noskova serving for the match in the second set, Pliskova managed to turn the tables and secure the victory.

In another match, Chinese fifth seed Zheng lost her advantage in the opening set against Fernandez, who broke her serve twice and won the final four games.

Fernandez then capitalized on Zheng's loose service game in the second set to secure an impressive victory. Fernandez, a former US Open finalist, will now face third seed Elena Rybakina for a place in the semi-finals.

Rybakina faced a tough challenge from Emma Navarro, but managed to come out on top, winning in three sets.

Despite Navarro's strong performance, Rybakina held her nerve and sealed the win by saving two break points in the final game.

Rybakina described the match as difficult, acknowledging Navarro's strong play and the physical demands of the match.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.

Unfortunately, Katerina Siniakova, who eliminated Coco Gauff in the second round, was unable to capitalize on her success from Tuesday as she suffered a straight-set loss to Danielle Collins.

Later on Wednesday, top seed Iga Swiatek also made progress by comfortably defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-1, 6-4.
