Napoli 1-0 AS Roma: Lukaku on target as Partenopei reclaim top spot

Napoli defeated AS Roma 1-0 at home on Sunday, with Romelu Lukaku's second-half goal sealing all three points and top spot in Serie A.

Napoli broke the deadlock after 54 minutes, with Lukaku sliding in to meet Giovanni Di Lorenzo's low cross from close range and score against the side he played for last season.

Napoli have 29 points after 13 games, one point ahead of Atalanta, Inter Milan, Fiorentina, and Lazio, who are second to fifth, respectively.

It was a dismal day for Roma manager Claudio Ranieri, who began his third stint in charge, with his team sitting 12th in the standings with 13 points.

Napoli had an early chance to grab the lead, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia missed a clear header after being left unmarked at the back post.

Roma goalie Mile Svilar was kept busy, making several vital stops, including a good stop on Scott McTominay's angled shot.

Roma woke up after Lukaku's goal in the second half, with Artem Dovbyk powering a header off the woodwork from a free kick minutes later, but they were unable to equalise.

Napoli could have scored another goal in the dying seconds of the game but David Neres curled a shot from the outside of the box just wide.

Fiorentina stretched their Serie A winning streak to seven games earlier on Sunday, a mark they hadn't accomplished since April 1960, with a 2-0 victory against Como, thanks to goals from Yacine Adli and Moise Kean.

Fiorentina's goalkeeper David De Gea was instrumental, making a spectacular triple save to deny the hosts at the hour mark.

Lazio defeated 10-man Bologna 3-0 at home later on Sunday, after the visitors' Tommaso Pobega was sent off shortly before halftime.

Samuel Gigot, Mattia Zaccagni, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru all scored in the second half to give Lazio their seventh straight win in all competitions.
