Napoli 2-0 Hellas Verona: Partenopei strengthen grip on top spot with convincing win over Verona

Napoli achieved their 12th clean sheet of the Serie A season, the highest in Europe’s top five leagues, by defeating Hellas Verona 2-0 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, thereby solidifying their position at the top of the league table.
Having secured four consecutive victories, Napoli entered Matchday 20 with a three-point lead over their nearest competitors. However, they had played one more match than Atalanta and two more than Inter Milan, whose earlier win on Sunday reduced the gap to just one point.
Despite the mounting pressure, Napoli displayed confidence against Verona, taking the lead within the first five minutes. The opening goal came in an unexpected manner, as Giorgio Di Lorenzo’s powerful shot struck the post and ricocheted off goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo into the net.
The home side nearly doubled their advantage shortly thereafter, with Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa missing a close-range opportunity by sending the ball over the crossbar, while Romelu Lukaku also failed to convert a chance, shooting narrowly wide.
Verona struggled to pose a threat to Napoli, with Casper Tengstedt’s header being their closest attempt, which went over the bar and failed to test goalkeeper Alex Meret before halftime.
After the break, Napoli continued to dominate, with Scott McTominay forcing a save from Montipo. The Partenopei came close to scoring again with two headers from Amir Rrahmani following corners taken by Leonardo Spinazzola; the first was cleared off the line by Davide Faraoni, and the second went over the bar from a short distance.
Napoli secured the match with a second goal around the hour mark, courtesy of Anguissa, who struck powerfully into the corner from outside the penalty area.
This goal alleviated any remaining tension, allowing Napoli to maintain possession for most of the final thirty minutes, aside from a long-range effort from Grigoris Kastanos that was safely parried by Meret.
They currently hold a four-point advantage, providing a solid cushion, although Inter could surpass them should they secure victories in their two additional matches. On the other hand, Verona finds themselves only one point above the relegation zone, as this outcome concluded their two-match unbeaten streak.
