Napoli 2-2 AS Roma: Late Abraham header rescues point for Giallorossi

Napoli and Roma had to settle for a draw in an exciting Serie A match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The Partenopei have only managed to win one game out of their last eight across all competitions.

Roma manager Daniele De Rossi expressed regret for his excessive celebrations earlier in the week when his team scored a late winning goal against Udinese. However, he almost had a reason to celebrate again when Lorenzo Pellegrini's header came close to going in under the crossbar early in the game.

Both teams had strong defenses in the first half, but Napoli posed a threat on the counterattack, especially through Victor Osimhen, although he didn't receive much support.

Osimhen made a couple of attempts, but they didn't trouble Mile Svilar too much. However, the Roma goalkeeper had to be alert to deny Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who missed the target after being set up by Osimhen in a one-on-one situation.

Opportunities continued to present themselves for Partenopei as the first half came to a close, and Giallorossi fans were relieved to see Svilar deflect Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's shot before Giovanni Di Lorenzo's header narrowly missed the target.

There was a noticeable improvement from Giallorossi after halftime, and they managed to break the deadlock after surviving a scare from Stanislav Lobotka's close-range attempt.

Facing his former team, Juan Jesus fouled Sardar Azmoun in the box, resulting in a penalty that Paulo Dybala converted successfully.

However, the scores were quickly leveled as Mathias Olivera's shot took a heavy deflection and went over Svilar.

The game opened up in the final 25 minutes, with chances for both sides as Osimhen missed a header narrowly before Pellegrini tested the goalkeeper with a powerful shot.

Similar to the first half, Napoli created better chances, and Osimhen capitalized on a mistake from Renato Sanches to convert a penalty and change the course of the match.

VAR played a significant role in the game, awarding Roma a late equalizer as Tammy Abraham headed in a corner to secure a point for the visitors.

Although the draw doesn't end Giallorossi's winless away record, it provides them with a valuable point in the race for a Champions League spot.

On the other hand, Napoli's five-point gap to seventh place might be too much to overcome, especially after Osimhen was denied a late winner by Svilar once again.
