NBA roundup: Brunson drops 42 in Knicks' bounce-back win, Thunder defeat Bucks

Jalen Brunson scored 42 points as the New York Knicks mounted a late offensive surge to defeat the Houston Rockets 124-118 in an NBA matchup on Monday.

After suffering a defeat at home against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, the Knicks appeared to be on the verge of another loss at Madison Square Garden, as the Rockets established an 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter.

However, this double-digit advantage for Houston triggered a remarkable scoring outburst from New York, culminating in an impressive 46-point fourth quarter that dramatically shifted the momentum of the game.

Brunson spearheaded the effort, contributing 17 points in the final period and sealing the victory with two crucial free throws, securing a win that positions New York third in the Eastern Conference standings.

Brunson received significant offensive contributions from Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges, each adding 22 points, while Josh Hart also reached double figures with 19 points.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau praised his team's resilience in overcoming adversity to secure a win against a formidable opponent from the Western Conference.

"You have to win games in various ways," Thibodeau remarked. "We found ourselves in a difficult situation, but we managed to turn it around—I was impressed with our response in the fourth quarter. We were determined to do whatever it took to win."

In other NBA action on Monday, the Oklahoma City Thunder capitalized on a depleted Milwaukee Bucks roster, extending their lead at the top of the Western Conference with a decisive 125-96 victory.

The Bucks, who were without key players Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez, Khris Middleton, and Bobby Portis, were overwhelmed by the Thunder's offensive onslaught, which saw them lead by as much as 44 points during the third quarter.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge for Oklahoma City, scoring 34 points in just 22 minutes, while Ousmane Dieng contributed 21 points off the bench.
