NBA roundup: Cavaliers bounce back, Durant powers Suns past Pistons

Donovan Mitchell delivered an impressive performance, scoring 36 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers made a strong comeback with a 124-117 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday.
The Cavaliers, who currently lead the Eastern Conference, entered Minneapolis having suffered two losses in their last three games, including a significant defeat of 134-114 to the high-flying Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.
Despite trailing by 11 points early in the first quarter, the Cavaliers ignited their game and emerged as convincing victors, improving their record to 35-6.
Mitchell once again proved to be the key player, teaming up with Darius Garland to contribute 65 points to Cleveland's total. Mitchell's stat line included 36 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, along with four successful three-point shots.
Garland supported with 29 points, hitting five of his ten attempts from beyond the arc.
For the Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards led the scoring with 28 points, including four three-pointers, while Julius Randle narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists.
In Boston, Trae Young scored 28 points, leading the Atlanta Hawks to a surprising 119-115 victory over the defending NBA champion Celtics in an overtime contest that featured 17 lead changes.
The Celtics began the game strongly, establishing a 12-point lead early on, but the Hawks responded vigorously, outscoring Boston 31-15 in the second quarter to take a 52-48 lead at halftime.
After the break, Boston regained the lead and was ahead by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but Atlanta forced overtime with two late free throws from Young in the closing seconds.
In overtime, Atlanta's defense proved resilient, successfully stifling Boston's offense and securing a memorable road win.
With this victory, Atlanta improved to 22-19, while the Celtics maintained their position in second place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 29-13.
Despite the defeat marking Boston's second loss in three games this week, coach Joe Mazzulla expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to guide the champions back to form. "There is no fear - I'm actually more excited at this juncture of the season than I was at the beginning," Mazzulla stated.
This is the commitment you embrace. This is the enjoyable aspect. There is absolutely no fear involved.
In Indianapolis, the Indiana Pacers achieved a decisive victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, winning 115-102.
Tyrese Maxey led the Sixers with 28 points; however, Indiana's well-rounded offense, featuring six players scoring in double figures, proved too formidable for a Philadelphia team that was again without the injured Joel Embiid.
In Detroit, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant teamed up to score 71 points, enabling the Phoenix Suns to narrowly defeat the Pistons with a score of 125-121.
Durant contributed 36 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Booker added 35 points to the total.
With this victory, the Suns improved their record to 21-20, securing the 10th position in the Western Conference standings.
In San Francisco, Jordan Poole made a notable return to the Chase Center but could not lead the Washington Wizards to victory against his former team, the Golden State Warriors.
Poole, who was part of the Warriors' championship-winning squad in the 2021/22 season before being traded to Washington in 2023, scored 38 points, including eight three-pointers.
Nevertheless, the struggling Warriors managed to secure a 122-114 win, with Andrew Wiggins scoring 31 points and Stephen Curry contributing 26.
The Warriors faced a moment of concern when Curry limped off the court due to an ankle injury sustained during a confrontation with Poole in the closing minutes; however, reports from U.S. media later indicated that he is expected to play on Monday.
