NBA roundup: Celtics ease past Pistons, Kings defeat Pelicans

The Boston Celtics, reigning NBA champions, demonstrated their resilience in the absence of All-Star Jayson Tatum, achieving a commanding 123-99 victory against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, highlighted by an impressive 20 three-pointers.
With Tatum out due to a sore right knee, Payton Pritchard emerged as a key player, leading the Celtics with 27 points and 10 assists, marking their 12th consecutive win over the Pistons.
Pritchard successfully made seven three-pointers, reaching a career milestone of 500, becoming the 10th player in Celtics history to achieve this feat.
"Payton has been exceptional," remarked Jaylen Brown, the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, acknowledging Pritchard's significant contributions off the bench throughout the season, positioning him as a contender for the Sixth Man of the Year award.
"We anticipated this performance," Brown added. "Our team is filled with talent, and he has the ability to deliver consistently."
Derrick White also contributed significantly, hitting seven three-pointers and finishing with 23 points.
Kristaps Porzingis added 19 points, while Brown contributed 14, as six players from the Celtics scored in double figures.
Luke Kornet, coming off the bench, was flawless with five successful field goals, contributing 12 points to aid the Celtics in rebounding from their previous loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
With this victory, the Celtics improved their record to 20-5, placing them just one game behind the 21-4 Cleveland Cavaliers, who lead the Eastern Conference.
The Pistons, fresh off a win against the New York Knicks, received a notable performance from Ronald Holland, who led their scoring with 26 points.
Cade Cunningham, who recorded his fifth triple-double of the season on Saturday, added 18 points along with eight rebounds and eight assists. However, the Pistons struggled from beyond the arc, making only seven of their 37 three-point attempts and failing to regain the lead after the first quarter.
In Miami, Tyler Herro scored 23 points, while Bam Adebayo contributed 21 points and 16 rebounds, guiding the Heat to a 114-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
Miami extended their winning streak to four games, overcoming a 16-point deficit early in the second quarter to take a 58-51 lead at halftime, after which they maintained control of the game.
RJ Barrett achieved a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists for Toronto, while Gradey Dick contributed 22 points to the team's efforts.
Jimmy Butler of Miami, who has been the subject of trade discussions in the media this week, recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Prior to the game, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra remarked that the trade rumors surrounding Butler would not serve as a distraction for either the player or the team.
"This is part of the profession," Spoelstra stated. "You cannot allow yourself to be unsettled by the narratives circulating out there."
In New Orleans, the Sacramento Kings, led by Domantas Sabonis with 32 points and 21 rebounds, narrowly defeated the Pelicans 111-109.
DeMar DeRozan contributed 29 points for Sacramento, who had a 14-point lead midway through the fourth quarter. However, New Orleans managed to reduce the deficit to two points following CJ McCollum's three-point play with 1:24 left on the clock.
Despite McCollum's impressive 36-point performance, the Pelicans fell short on two critical possessions as the Kings secured the victory.
