NBA roundup: Celtics stretch win streak to eight games, Timberwolves win

On Saturday, the Boston Celtics extended their NBA win streak to eight games by defeating New York 116-102, with Jaylen Brown contributing 30 points and Kristaps Porzingis adding 22 to the scoreboard.

The Celtics have now reached the NBA's best record at 45-12 and extended their winning streak to a season high, widening their lead in the Eastern Conference over second-place Cleveland to eight games.

Jayson Tatum contributed 19 points, six rebounds, and six assists, with six Boston players scoring in double figures.

Tatum emphasized the importance of respecting each other's space and maintaining a rhythm in the game, highlighting the team's depth and understanding of the long-term goal of winning an NBA title in June.

Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 34 points and nine assists, but they fell to 34-23. Porzingis and Brown played key roles in a third-quarter run that helped the Celtics establish a significant lead, shooting 68% from the floor entering the fourth quarter.

Boston's defense held the Knicks scoreless for five minutes in the fourth quarter, securing a comfortable victory with a lead of up to 20 points.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves claimed the top spot in the Western Conference with a 101-86 win over Brooklyn. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns led the T-Wolves to victory, improving their record to 40-17, just half a game ahead of Oklahoma City with the second-best record in the NBA.

The Nets suffered their fourth consecutive loss, dropping to 21-35.

In the lone game of the night, the Orlando Magic secured a thrilling 112-109 victory over the Detroit Pistons thanks to Paolo Banchero's clutch three-point play with just 0.1 seconds left on the clock.

Banchero displayed incredible composure as he sank the game-winning jumper while being fouled, and then calmly converted the ensuing free throw to seal the dramatic triumph.

Reflecting on his final shot, Banchero, with tears in his eyes, acknowledged its significance. Despite battling illness and feeling terrible throughout the game, he credited his teammates for their unwavering support, acknowledging that they lifted him up when he needed it the most.

Although he couldn't explain his emotions, Banchero expressed his pride in his team's performance, recognizing the challenging nature of the game they had just overcome.

Banchero led the way for Orlando with 15 points, joined by an impressive eight double-figure scorers. This victory propelled the Magic to a 32-25 record, placing them on par with the Indiana Pacers for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

On the other hand, the Pistons, led by Cade Cunningham's 26 points, suffered their fifth consecutive loss, further solidifying their position as the team with the worst record in the NBA at 8-48.

With 96 seconds remaining in the game, Franz Wagner's free throw provided Orlando with a 109-105 advantage. However, Cunningham responded with a jumper and a layup for Detroit, leveling the score at 109-109 with just 12 seconds left on the clock.

It was in this intense moment that Banchero rose to the occasion, delivering his heroics and securing the memorable victory for the Magic.
