NBA roundup: Celtics take down Cavs in best of East showdown, Lakers shine in front of Doncic

Jayson Tatum, aged 26, recorded 22 points as the Boston Celtics established a significant postseason statement with a 112-105 victory against the dynamic Cleveland Cavaliers on the road on Tuesday.

In a pivotal clash between the Eastern Conference-leading Cavaliers and the second-placed Celtics, Boston delivered a precise performance to secure a well-deserved triumph.

While Tatum was the leading scorer for Boston, it was the team's well-rounded offensive effort that ultimately overwhelmed the Cavaliers.

Tatum was among five Celtics players who scored in double figures, with Derrick White contributing 20 points, including six three-pointers, which were instrumental in achieving the victory for Boston.

Kristaps Porzingis added 19 points, and Jaylen Brown contributed 16, while Donovan Mitchell topped the scoring for Cleveland with 31 points.

Boston appeared set to deliver a decisive blow after outpacing Cleveland 28-15 in the first quarter and establishing a substantial 20-point lead in the second quarter.

However, after falling behind 43-23 midway through the second period, Cleveland mounted a strong comeback, narrowing the gap to 10 points by halftime.

The Cavaliers continued to chip away at Boston's lead in the second half, but the Celtics' exceptional shooting ensured that they maintained a comfortable distance from their opponents.

In another matchup, Kyrie Irving scored 34 points, yet the Dallas Mavericks fell short in a narrow 118-116 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, who were energized by the return of Joel Embiid.

Embiid, returning after a month-long absence due to knee and foot injuries, delivered an impressive triple-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, including the decisive basket with 22 seconds left, securing a vital win for the Sixers.

Tyrese Maxey led the scoring for Philadelphia with 33 points, along with 13 assists and four rebounds.

The Mavericks, on the other hand, were missing their new acquisition Anthony Davis, who was involved in the significant trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis is currently recovering from an abdominal strain but is anticipated to be ready for his debut later this week, potentially against Boston on Thursday or Houston on Saturday.

In a recent matchup, the Los Angeles Lakers triumphed over the Los Angeles Clippers with a score of 122-97. Luka Doncic, a new addition to the Lakers, observed the game from the bench as his teammates delivered a commanding performance.

LeBron James was the standout player, contributing 26 points, while both Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves added 20 points each. With this victory, the Lakers improved their record to 29-19, positioning themselves in fifth place in the Western Conference standings.

"We're just trying to play good basketball and keep stacking days; tonight was another one," James remarked. "We came out with the right mindset, we had a great scheme, and we executed that."

In Toronto, the New York Knicks secured a 121-115 victory over the Raptors, with Karl-Anthony Towns leading the charge with 27 points and 20 rebounds. The pre-game ceremony was marked by Canadian fans booing the US national anthem in protest against US President Donald Trump's tariff threats.

Meanwhile, in New York, the struggling Brooklyn Nets (17-33) managed to upset the Houston Rockets 99-97, thanks to a last-second three-pointer from D'Angelo Russell.
