NBA roundup: Celtics, Thunder extend win streaks, Lakers edge Rockets

Veteran Al Horford showcased his enduring talent, contributing significantly to the NBA champion Boston Celtics' ninth consecutive victory with a 117-103 triumph over the Grizzlies in Memphis on Monday. At 38 years old, Horford was the leading scorer for the Celtics, coming off the bench to net 26 points.

Jayson Tatum also made a notable impact, recording 25 points and 14 rebounds, while the Celtics' defense effectively contained the Grizzlies in the second half, culminating in a flawless 6-0 road trip—the longest unbeaten stretch away from home in the franchise's history.

Currently positioned second in the Eastern Conference, trailing only the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Celtics achieved all six victories by a margin of double digits.

Horford reached a season-high by successfully making six of Boston's 21 three-point attempts.

"It's a lot of fun," Horford said. "It's pretty amazing for me to be in this position and I'm just trying to have fun with it and enjoy with my team."

For the Grizzlies, Ja Morant led the scoring with 26 points. They had a strong start, leading by as much as 11 in the first half and regaining the lead early in the third quarter. However, they ultimately fell short, losing ground in their competition with the Los Angeles Lakers for the fourth spot in the Western Conference.

The Lakers secured a narrow 104-98 victory over the second-placed Houston Rockets in a closely contested match at Crypto Arena. Luka Doncic, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Gabe Vincent each contributed 20 points for the Lakers, while LeBron James added 16 points.

James sealed the game by making two crucial free throws to extend the Lakers' lead to 102-98 with just 11.1 seconds remaining, followed by a pivotal block that helped secure the win.

Thunder 145-117 Bulls
The Oklahoma City Thunder, having already secured the top seed in the Western Conference, achieved their tenth consecutive victory by decisively defeating the Chicago Bulls.

Isaiah Joe contributed significantly off the bench, scoring 31 points and leading a total of seven Thunder players who reached double figures in scoring. This victory improved Oklahoma City's record to 28-1 against Eastern Conference teams, setting an NBA record for the most wins by a team against opponents from the other conference.

"We all have the same goal in mind," said Joe, who made eight of the Thunder's 23 three-pointers. "We know what we want to do at the end of the day and we know how to get there. We've just got to keep stacking days, stacking games."

The Indiana Pacers staged a comeback from a 16-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat the Sacramento Kings 111-109, solidifying their position in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Tyrese Haliburton played a pivotal role, scoring 18 points and providing 11 assists, including a crucial three-pointer with 1:17 left that secured the lead for Indiana.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers, currently eighth in the Western Conference but engaged in a tight race with Golden State and Minnesota for the sixth seed and direct playoff entry, managed a hard-fought 96-87 victory over the Magic in Orlando.

Kawhi Leonard and Norman Powell each scored 21 points, while Ivica Zubac contributed 18 points and 20 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, helping the Clippers take control in a contest that saw 15 lead changes in the first three quarters.

Paolo Banchero contributed 26 points, while Franz Wagner added 21 for the Magic, who maintained their position in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

The top six teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs, whereas the teams ranked seventh to tenth participate in a mini-tournament to secure the final two playoff spots.

The Miami Heat moved up to ninth place, surpassing the Bulls, following their fifth consecutive victory, defeating the Wizards 120-94 in Washington.

Jordan Poole has now set the franchise record for the most three-pointers in a season for the Wizards.

Bam Adebayo recorded 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Tyler Herro contributed 27 points for the Heat, who are currently on a winning streak after previously enduring a 10-game losing streak.
