NBA roundup: Clippers upset Warriors, Lillard shines in Bucks return

The Los Angeles Clippers managed to withstand a vigorous late-game surge to defeat the leading Golden State Warriors 102-99 in the NBA on Monday.
Norman Powell was the standout performer for the Clippers, contributing 23 points, which included five successful three-point shots, as the Los Angeles team improved its season record to 8-7 by overcoming the top team in the Western Conference.
The Clippers held a 15-point advantage late in the second quarter, but the Warriors gradually reduced the deficit, closing the gap to three points by the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Clippers demonstrated resilience to fend off the Warriors, who missed a crucial three-point shot from Gary Payton II at the buzzer that would have tied the game and forced overtime.
Stephen Curry was the leading scorer for the Warriors, finishing with 26 points, while Andrew Wiggins contributed 22 points.
Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue remarked on his team's performance at the conclusion of the third quarter, stating, "I reminded them that they are the top team in the West for a reason, but we still held a three-point lead at home."
He expressed pride in his team's ability to maintain composure despite the Warriors' strong push, ultimately securing the victory.
In another game on Monday, Damian Lillard made a comeback after a three-game absence due to a concussion, scoring a decisive layup with 3.9 seconds left, leading the Milwaukee Bucks to a crucial 101-100 win over the Houston Rockets, who had been on a five-game winning streak.
Houston started strong, establishing a 13-point lead in the first quarter, but Milwaukee, currently four spots above the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 5-9 record following this victory, responded effectively to take a 12-point lead by halftime.
The Rockets regained control in the fourth quarter, but a late surge from Milwaukee, capped by Lillard's game-winning shot, concluded a thrilling contest.
Lillard, who recorded 18 points and 10 assists, acknowledged the difficulties he faced during his recovery from concussion.
Lillard expressed his feelings following Monday's victory, stating, "Typically, when I experience difficulties, I believe I can push through them. However, this was perhaps one of the first instances in my life, and certainly in my NBA career, where I sensed that something was amiss."
He added, "It was somewhat frustrating. I simply did not appreciate being away from the team."
Brook Lopez was the leading scorer for the Bucks, contributing 27 points, while Giannis Antetokounmpo added 20 points to the tally.
In Phoenix, Franz Wagner scored 32 points, leading the Orlando Magic to a 109-99 victory over the undermanned Suns.
Wagner received support from Anthony Black, who scored 20 points off the bench, and Goga Bitadze, who contributed 17 points.
The Suns, missing key players Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Jusuf Nurkic due to injuries, suffered their fourth consecutive loss. After a strong start to the season at 8-1, they have now dropped to a 9-6 record.
Phoenix coach Mike Budenholzer urged his team to support one another as they navigate this challenging period caused by injuries.
"Just stay together," Budenholzer advised. "You must continue to work hard and maintain a positive outlook. This group is capable of that; they are quite resilient."
In other news from Monday, Jimmy Butler recorded 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, leading the Miami Heat to a decisive 106-89 victory over the struggling Philadelphia 76ers. Tyler Herro contributed 18 points for Miami, while the Sixers faltered again despite having a 19-point lead early in the second quarter.
Philadelphia now finds itself at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 2-11 record, and star player Joel Embiid faced challenges, finishing with only 11 points.
