NBA roundup: Curry shines in Warriors win, Doncic and LeBron fuel epic Lakers comeback win

Stephen Curry recorded 40 points as the Golden State Warriors overcame a double-digit deficit for the second consecutive game, triumphing over the Brooklyn Nets with a score of 121-119 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Luka Doncic and LeBron James combined for 63 points, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a thrilling 113-109 overtime victory against the New York Knicks.

The Lakers, in exceptional form, extended their winning streak to eight games in an exhilarating contest at the Crypto Arena, where Doncic contributed 32 points and James added 31.

Both Doncic and James played pivotal roles in the Lakers' comeback after the Knicks had established a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Conversely, the Knicks were left to lament a missed opportunity for victory, despite an outstanding performance from Jalen Brunson, who scored a game-high 39 points.

The disappointment of the Knicks' loss was further exacerbated by an injury to Brunson during overtime, as the talented point guard exited the game after twisting his right ankle in a collision with the Lakers' Austin Reaves.

"Our physicality in the fourth quarter was next level," an exhausted Doncic said afterwards. "Once we got started, we played basketball.

"They're a great team with great players and it's a tough win. We've got eight in a row now and every game is a battle for us."

The Lakers appeared to be facing difficulties as they trailed for a significant portion of the game against an energized Knicks team, which had established a lead of up to 13 points at one point.

However, after a challenging shooting performance throughout the match, the Lakers found their rhythm in the fourth quarter. LeBron James contributed two vital three-pointers, while Gabe Vincent added three from beyond the arc, igniting the team's resurgence.

Vincent concluded the game with 12 points, and Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht also made a notable impact off the bench, scoring 11 points, including three three-pointers.

With this victory, the Lakers improved their record to 40-21, maintaining their position in second place in the Western Conference, trailing the Oklahoma City team by 10.5 games.

In another matchup, Stephen Curry, who netted 28 points in the Warriors' comeback win against the New York Knicks on Tuesday, showcased exceptional performance as Golden State overcame a 22-point deficit in the first quarter to secure their third consecutive road victory.

Curry's impressive 40-point performance featured seven three-pointers out of 13 attempts, highlighted by a remarkable shot from near half-court that concluded the first half.

This spectacular moment reduced the deficit to five points at halftime, as the Warriors surged back after being outscored 35-15 in the opening quarter.

The Warriors established their momentum during the second quarter, scoring 40 points compared to the Nets' 25, ultimately completing their comeback after halftime.

Curry received support from Jimmy Butler, who contributed 25 points, while Gary Payton II added 16 points off the bench. Cameron Johnson was Brooklyn's top scorer with 26 points.

With this victory, the Warriors improved their record to 35-28, positioning themselves sixth in the Western Conference as they aim for a return to the playoffs after missing out last season.

Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics continued to pursue the Cleveland Cavaliers for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, achieving a comfortable win against a Philadelphia 76ers team plagued by injuries.

The Sixers, who were without Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey, struggled throughout the game as the Celtics secured a wire-to-wire victory, enhancing their record to 45-18 in the East, trailing Cleveland by 7.5 games.

Jayson Tatum spearheaded Boston's offensive effort with 35 points, while the in-form Payton Pritchard made a significant impact off the bench with 19 points.

The only setback for the Celtics occurred in the second quarter when Derrick White had to exit the game after losing a tooth during a physical encounter with Kelly Oubre Jr. of the Sixers. White returned in the second half equipped with a mouthguard.

In other Tuesday matchups, the Atlanta Hawks triumphed over the Indiana Pacers with a score of 124-118, while the Chicago Bulls narrowly defeated the Orlando Magic 125-123. In New Orleans, the Houston Rockets dominated the Pelicans, winning 109-97.
