NBA roundup: Heat crush Warriors on Butler's return, Thunder extend win streak to seven games

The Miami Heat delivered a commanding 112-86 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, marking a rough return for Jimmy Butler in his first matchup against his former team since his contentious departure.
Butler, who was traded to Golden State in February following tensions with Heat management, had a quiet night, scoring just 11 points as the Warriors' offense faltered. Meanwhile, Miami set the tone early and never looked back, securing a dominant wire-to-wire win.
Before tip-off, Butler—who played six seasons with the Heat and played a pivotal role in their 2020 NBA Finals run—was honored with a video tribute. While some fans at the Kaseya Center expressed their disapproval with scattered boos, the overall reception was positive.
"This was a huge part of my career so I continue to say that I'm very grateful," Butler said. "I ain't spiteful towards nobody."
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra downplayed any suggestion that Butler’s return served as extra motivation for his squad, instead emphasizing their focus on maintaining consistency.
"The energy in the building was great," Spoelstra said. "We didn't do any extra motivational speech leading up into this—it was more about us staying the course with our process."
Warriors coach Steve Kerr acknowledged Miami’s preparedness, saying, "People don’t ever seem too amped up around here. It really wasn't that rabid an environment. It was typical Miami. The main part of Jimmy's return is that the Heat were ready. And Spo had them ready. It was about how hard they played and how well they competed. They took it to us."
With the win, Miami improved to 31-41, holding onto 10th place in the Eastern Conference and remaining in the play-in tournament mix. The Warriors, now 41-31, sit in sixth place in the Western Conference, just ahead of the seventh-seeded Los Angeles Clippers (40-31).
Elsewhere in the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder continued their dominant run, extending their winning streak to seven games with a 121-105 road victory over the Sacramento Kings. MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with 32 points, seven rebounds, and five assists as Oklahoma secured its 60th win of the season.
"It's a testament to our hard work," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "There's a lot more work to be done. We haven't done anything. We haven't achieved half of our goals yet."
The Thunder have already locked up the top spot in the Western Conference and are now eyeing the league’s best overall record.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets maintained their grip on second place in the West with a hard-fought 121-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks, led by Jalen Green’s 32-point performance.
In the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers strengthened their position atop the standings with a 122-111 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, improving to 58-14.
