NBA roundup: Heat scorch Bucks in blowout, Tatum shines in Celtics romp

On Tuesday, the Miami Heat, despite being understaffed, dominated the struggling Milwaukee Bucks with a resounding 123-97 victory. Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum showcased his exceptional skills by achieving a remarkable 41-point double-double, leading the Boston Celtics to a comfortable win over the Brooklyn Nets.
Miami overcame the absence of key players Jimmy Butler, Terry Rozier, and Josh Richardson to deliver an impressive shooting performance in a dominant victory on the road at Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum.
Nikola Jovic led the scoring for Miami with 24 points, including five three-pointers, while Duncan Robinson contributed six three-pointers in his 23-point performance.
Miami shot 19-of-40 from beyond the arc, with six players reaching double figures in scoring.
Even veteran Kevin Love found his shooting rhythm, making five three-pointers off the bench to finish with 19 points in a wire-to-wire win for Miami.
However, the defeat left Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers with much to contemplate as his team heads into the All-Star break.
Rivers took over last month following the surprising dismissal of his predecessor, Adrian Griffin, with the goal of improving Milwaukee's defense.
Yet, the Bucks displayed another porous defensive performance, struggling to gain any momentum against a well-organized Miami squad.
"They were quicker and more energetic in every aspect of the game," Rivers commented after the loss.
"Though our defense looked bad, I believe our offense was even worse tonight. It was evident from the beginning.
"At halftime, our offense was simply terrible. Currently, our team's identity is derived from the offensive end, and that's not what we want. We want to establish our identity through hard work and defensive prowess. Unfortunately, we didn't accomplish that tonight."
Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee's scoring with 23 points, while Malik Beasley, Damian Lillard, and Bobby Portis each contributed 16 points.
With this victory, Miami, who were defeated by Denver in last season's NBA Finals, improved their record to 29-25 and currently hold the seventh position in the Eastern Conference standings.
Milwaukee, on the other hand, dropped to 35-20 and currently sit in third place in the East, trailing behind Boston in first place and Cleveland in second.
