NBA roundup: Luka Doncic makes triple-double history as Mavs down Pistons

On Saturday, Dallas star Luka Doncic made NBA history by achieving an incredible feat. He became the first player to record six consecutive 30-point triple-doubles. The Mavericks emerged victorious with a score of 142-124 against the Detroit Pistons.
Luka Doncic achieved a remarkable feat by scoring 39 points along with 10 rebounds and 10 assists, surpassing Russell Westbrook's five consecutive 30-point triple-doubles from the 2016-17 season.
The talented Slovenian player further solidified his NBA record by registering his fifth straight triple-double with 35 or more points, in addition to making three steals and two blocked shots.
Mavericks coach Jason Kidd praised Doncic's exceptional performance and compared it to rare art by saying, "That just shows where he's playing at right now." Kidd emphasized Doncic's ability to not only score and assist, but also contribute on the defensive end by grabbing rebounds.
During the game, Doncic demonstrated his offensive prowess by scoring 26 points in the first half, including an impressive 21 points in the second quarter amidst taunting chants from Pistons fans.
Kidd responded to the crowd's remarks by highlighting Doncic's talent and resilience, stating, "Well, we know he doesn't suck. I think we know he enjoys when people talk to him. If that's what sparked him, we would like for that to happen a lot more."
Dallas received a boost from Kyrie Irving, who contributed 21 points to their total. The team managed to extend their lead to 16 points during the third quarter and began the fourth quarter with a 7-0 scoring run.
On the other hand, the Pistons' Cade Cunningham had an impressive performance, scoring 33 points while also providing 10 assists and nine rebounds.
Unfortunately, it was another frustrating night for the Detroit team. Their frustration reached a boiling point in the fourth quarter when Jalen Duren was ejected for forcefully shoving P.J. Washington.
This incident occurred after Washington had nudged Duren aside to assist teammate Daniel Gafford, who had been fouled by Duren under the basket.
In a separate game, the Boston Celtics, who currently hold the top spot in the league, managed to avoid a three-game losing streak by defeating the Suns 117-107 in Phoenix.
Jayson Tatum overcame a slow start to score 29 points and secure 10 rebounds. Jaylen Brown also contributed 27 points to Boston's victory. The Celtics had previously suffered losses against Cleveland and the reigning NBA champions, Denver.
Despite a remarkable performance from Kevin Durant, who scored 45 points, and Bradley Beal, who added 25 points, the Suns struggled throughout the game. They were missing their injured All-Star player, Devin Booker, and trailed behind for most of the night.
Although the Celtics' two-game losing streak may not have been significant by NBA standards, it attracted a fair amount of scrutiny for the Eastern Conference leaders.
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla expressed his satisfaction with how his players handled the situation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced mindset and approach, both during wins and losses. Mazzulla commended his team for their maturity and resilience throughout the process.
In a clash between two teams dealing with injuries, the San Antonio Spurs emerged victorious over the Golden State Warriors with a score of 126-113 in San Francisco.
Despite the absence of star rookie Victor Wembanyama due to an ankle injury, Keldon Johnson stepped up for the Spurs, contributing 22 points and 11 rebounds as a key player off the bench.
On the Warriors' side, Klay Thompson made a strong impact coming off the bench, scoring 27 points. However, they were missing Stephen Curry, who was sidelined due to a right ankle injury.
Fortunately for the Warriors, an MRI exam revealed no structural damage in Curry's ankle, providing some positive news after his injury during Thursday's loss to Chicago.
Meanwhile, in Denver, the Nuggets dominated the Utah Jazz with a commanding 142-121 victory. Jamal Murray led the charge with an impressive 37 points, while Nikola Jokic added 26 points to secure the win.
In Los Angeles, the Clippers extended their winning streak to three games with a 112-102 triumph over the Chicago Bulls on their home court.
