NBA roundup: Nikola Jokic bags triple-double as Nuggets down Celtics in thrilling showdown

Nikola Jokic achieved his 20th triple-double of the season while the Denver Nuggets managed to secure a 115-109 victory over the Boston Celtics in their highly anticipated NBA matchup on Thursday.

The highly anticipated clash between the reigning NBA champions and the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics certainly lived up to expectations in a fiercely contested battle in Denver.

Denver's star player, Jokic, showcased his brilliance with an impressive stat line of 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Murray contributed 19 points and Gordon added 16.

This victory marked a clean sweep for Denver against Boston in their matchups this season.

Unfortunately for the Celtics, who were previously defeated by Cleveland, this loss resulted in back-to-back defeats for the first time since early November.

Despite the significance of the win, Jokic downplayed its importance and dismissed any notions that this showdown could be a preview of the NBA Finals.

In an on-court interview after the game, the Serbian player stated, "We still have a long way to go before reaching the finals, my friend. Tonight, we had exceptional energy, and our offense was in sync."

Boston, on the other hand, had to reflect on a loss despite an outstanding 41-point performance from Brown, who shot 16-of-29 from the field.

Porzingis contributed 24 points for Denver, while Tatum was limited to 15 points for the Celtics.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla attributed his team's 12 turnovers as the deciding factor in the game.

"When facing another formidable team, those 10-12 possessions become incredibly crucial," Mazzulla explained. "I believe Denver did a better job capitalizing on those opportunities than we did."

With a record of 48-14, Boston remains at the top of the Eastern Conference. Denver, on the other hand, sits in third place in the West with a 43-20 record, trailing the leaders, Minnesota, by just one game.

In other games on Thursday, Doncic's triple-double propelled the Dallas Mavericks to a narrow 114-108 victory over the Miami Heat. The Slovenian star recorded 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, leading his team to break their three-game losing streak.

The Mavericks were behind 101-100 with slightly over four minutes left, but managed to secure a win after a series of late three-pointers.

Doncic was supported in scoring by Kyrie Irving with 23 points, while four other Dallas players reached double figures.

Terry Rozier led Miami in scoring with 27 points.

With this victory, Dallas improved to 35-28 and remains in the playoff race in the Western Conference.

In Indianapolis, the Minnesota Timberwolves claimed a 113-111 victory over the Indiana Pacers, thanks to Anthony Edwards' 44-point performance in a back-and-forth game where the lead changed hands 17 times.

Minnesota seemed to be in control after establishing a 17-point lead in the second quarter.

However, the Pacers narrowed the gap, setting up a tense finish after outscoring Minnesota 34-23 in the third quarter.

Edwards was the standout player for Minnesota, hitting a 25-foot three-pointer to give the Timberwolves a 108-105 lead with 1:11 left.

Rudy Gobert contributed 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Timberwolves, with Naz Reid adding 13 off the bench.

Phoenix secured their second consecutive win with a wire-to-wire 120-113 victory over the Toronto Raptors in Arizona.

Kevin Durant led the Suns in scoring with 35 points on 11-of-19 shooting.

Grayson Allen impressed with 26 points, including eight three-pointers, while Bradley Beal finished with 20 points.

After a strong win against Milwaukee, the Golden State Warriors couldn't replicate that success in their home game against the Chicago Bulls.

DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic both scored 33 points as the Bulls fended off a late Warriors comeback to win 125-122.

Klay Thompson's 28-foot three-pointer briefly gave the Warriors a 119-118 lead with 40 seconds left, but DeRozan responded with a 17-foot pull-up jumper to regain the lead for the Bulls.
