NBA roundup: Nikola Jokic nets season-high 42 to lead Nuggets over Wizards

On Sunday, Nikola Jokic (28) demonstrated his exceptional skills by scoring an impressive 42 points and securing 12 rebounds, leading the reigning NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets, to a 113-104 victory over Washington.

The Serbian center, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, displayed an exceptional performance, making 15 out of 20 shots from the field and 12 out of 14 free throws. In addition to his scoring prowess, he also contributed eight assists, three blocks, and a steal against the host Wizards.

Jokic expressed the challenges of the game, emphasizing the importance of a winning mindset. The Nuggets, led by Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. with 19 points each, secured the victory, bringing them closer to the top spot in the Western Conference.

On the other hand, Kyle Kuzma's 17 points led the Washington team. Jokic's family presence at the game brought him immense joy, as he values their support and considers them his greatest pride.

In another NBA game, the Boston Celtics, led by Latvian forward Kristaps Porzingis with 32 points, emerged victorious with a 116-107 win against the Houston Rockets. Porzingis attributed his success to early open looks and his aggressive approach.

The Celtics' victory came after a close game against the Denver Nuggets, where they suffered their first home defeat of the season. Porzingis acknowledged the importance of bouncing back and learning from their previous loss.

With this win, the Celtics extended their lead in the Eastern Conference, boasting the best record in the NBA. Jayson Tatum contributed 18 points, while Jaylen Brown achieved a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Turkish center Alperen Sengun also achieved a triple-double for the Rockets, showcasing his skills with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Phoenix's Kevin Durant put up an impressive 40 points on 18-of-25 shooting to ignite the Suns' victory over the visiting Indiana Pacers with a score of 117-110. The Pacers were missing their star guard Tyrese Haliburton due to concerns over a sore hamstring.

Devin Booker contributed 26 points for the Suns, while Bradley Beal added 25 points. With this win, Phoenix's record improved to 24-18, placing them on par with Dallas for the sixth position in the Western Conference.

The Los Angeles Clippers staged a remarkable comeback with a 22-0 closing run to secure a 125-114 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. James Harden led the charge with 24 points and a game-high 10 assists, while Russell Westbrook provided a significant boost off the bench with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Despite the Nets opening the game with a 16-0 lead, they faltered in the end, allowing the Clippers to outscore them 41-15 in the fourth quarter. Kawhi Leonard also contributed 21 points to the Clippers' win, marking their eighth victory in the last 10 games. Their record now stands at 27-14, positioning them fourth in the Western Conference.

The Orlando Magic secured a 105-87 victory over the Miami Heat, thanks to Paolo Banchero's 20 points and 10 rebounds, along with Franz Wagner's 19 points. With this win, the Magic closed the gap to just one game behind the Heat, with a record of 23-20, in the race for the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference.

Unfortunately, Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young suffered a concussion during a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. As a result, he has entered the league's concussion protocols, and there is currently no set timetable for his return. His return will depend on successfully completing the NBA's return-to-play recovery process.
