NBA roundup: Tatum delivers 43-point triple-double, Cavs dominate 76ers

Jayson Tatum, delivered an impressive performance by scoring 43 points in his first triple-double of the season on Saturday, leading the NBA champion Boston Celtics to a 123-98 victory over the Chicago Bulls, thereby avenging a recent loss.

In this commanding display in Chicago, Tatum also recorded 16 rebounds and 10 assists, successfully making 16 of his 24 field goal attempts and nine out of 15 from beyond the arc.

With this achievement, Tatum became only the second Celtics player, alongside Larry Bird, to achieve a 40-point triple-double.

He also matched the feat of current Clippers star James Harden, being one of the few players to score at least 40 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, and nine three-pointers in a single game.

"It's essential to identify the moments that allow you to influence the game," Tatum remarked, noting that coach Joe Mazzulla encourages him to take charge and enhance the performance of his teammates.

Kristaps Porzingis contributed 22 points, while Jaylen Brown added 19 for the Celtics, who had previously suffered a surprising 117-108 defeat to the Bulls on their home court last Thursday.

For the Bulls, Nikola Vucevic led the team with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Zach LaVine, who scored 36 points in the last matchup, was limited to just 14 points.

In other news, the Celtics improved their record to 22-6, remaining competitive with the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers, who extended their league-best record to 25-4 following a 126-99 win against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Darius Garland was the standout for the Cavaliers, scoring 26 points as part of a balanced attack that saw six players reach double figures.

Tyrese Maxey led the Sixers with 27 points, although their star center Joel Embiid was absent from the game.

Lakers vs. Kings
The Los Angeles Lakers secured a victory against the Sacramento Kings with a score of 103-99, thanks to LeBron James' impressive 32-point performance. This win marked their second triumph in three days at the Kings' Golden 1 Center.

Despite trailing by 10 points with under three minutes left in the game, the Kings managed to narrow the gap to just two points with a little over a minute remaining. However, the Lakers maintained their composure to clinch the win.

"These two victories have stemmed from our focus on the fundamentals, especially since our shooting has not been particularly effective," James remarked, noting that the Lakers achieved an overall shooting percentage of 48.2 percent, including a challenging nine out of 35 from beyond the arc.

"Nonetheless, we have managed to secure these wins in a challenging environment by excelling in the details, particularly on the defensive end," he added.

In addition to his scoring, James contributed seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals, showcasing his all-around game.

In Milwaukee, Giannis Antetokounmpo was absent due to back spasms, while Damian Lillard missed the game with a calf strain. Nevertheless, Bobby Portis rose to the occasion, scoring 34 points and leading the Bucks to a 112-101 victory over the Washington Wizards.

The Golden State Warriors rebounded from a surprising 51-point defeat to Memphis with a 113-103 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis. Stephen Curry, who had struggled in the previous game, made seven three-pointers, finishing with 31 points and 10 assists.

San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama delivered a standout performance, scoring 30 points and matching his career high with 10 blocked shots, as the Spurs defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 114-94.

Jalen Brunson shone for the New York Knicks, scoring an impressive 39 points in their 104-93 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

In contrast, Kevin Durant's 43 points were insufficient for the Phoenix Suns, who lost 133-125 to the visiting Detroit Pistons. Cade Cunningham contributed significantly for the Pistons, scoring 28 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, as seven players reached double figures in scoring.

The Orlando Magic achieved a remarkable feat by equaling the largest comeback in the franchise's history, overcoming a 25-point deficit to secure a victory against the Miami Heat with a final score of 121-114.

Cole Anthony made a significant contribution, scoring 35 points as a substitute, with 13 of those points coming in the decisive final quarter for the Magic.
