NBA roundup: Thompson comes off bench to fuel Warriors win over Jazz

In Salt Lake City on Thursday night, the Golden State Warriors secured a hard-fought 140-137 victory against the Utah Jazz, thanks to Klay Thompson's outstanding performance. Despite not being included in the starting lineup, Thompson showcased his skills by scoring an impressive season-high of 35 points. The Warriors managed to withstand a late rally from the Jazz, ultimately emerging victorious.
Thompson excelled as a substitute player after starting 727 consecutive regular-season games, dating back to March 2012 when he first entered the league. He had a remarkable performance in the first quarter, scoring 10 points during a crucial stretch, shooting 13 of 22 from the field, and sinking seven 3-pointers to lead the Warriors to a victory before the All-Star break.
The win held significant milestones for the Warriors, marking their sixth victory in seven games. Steve Kerr achieved his 500th win as a head coach, while Thompson became the sixth player in Warriors history to surpass 15,000 points.
Contributing to the Warriors' success, Draymond Green scored a season-high 23 points, and Andrew Wiggins added 19 points. On the opposing side, Collin Sexton recorded 35 points and nine assists, while rookie Keyonte George had a season-high 33 points and six assists for Utah, despite their team's fourth consecutive loss.
In another game, the Grizzlies secured a 113-110 victory against the Bucks, with Ziaire Williams and rookie GG Jackson both scoring 27 points. Despite a late rally by Milwaukee, Memphis managed to hold on for the win, with Damian Lillard missing a potential game-tying 3-point shot at the buzzer.
This victory marked the Grizzlies' second consecutive win following a nine-game losing streak. Williams achieved a career-high in points, while Jackson matched his own career-high.
Due to numerous injuries, Memphis had 10 players sidelined, resulting in only seven Grizzlies players contributing to the scoring. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 35 points and 12 assists, while Lillard added 24 points.
Lastly, the Timberwolves dominated the Trail Blazers with a resounding 128-91 victory, led by Anthony Edwards' 34-point performance. Edwards had previously scored 41 points in the first game of the two-game series against Portland, which Minnesota won 121-109.
In this game, Edwards made 12 of 21 shots, in addition to recording seven assists and six rebounds. The Timberwolves concluded their five-game road trip with four consecutive wins.
For the Trail Blazers, Jerami Grant scored 20 points, and Scoot Henderson contributed 15 points. However, they struggled throughout the game and faced a deficit of up to 38 points, resulting in their sixth consecutive loss.
