NBA roundup: Thunder end Nuggets winning streak, Bucks rally to beat Cavs

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had an outstanding performance for the Thunder, tallying 40 points. He shot an impressive 14 of 20 from the field and made all 10 of his free throw attempts.

The victory propelled the Thunder ahead of the Nuggets, securing second place in the Western Conference with a 21-9 record. However, they're still trailing behind the current leaders, the Minnesota Timberwolves, who hold a 23-7 record.

On the other side, Nikola Jokic, the star player for the Nuggets, managed to score 19 points by shooting an efficient 9 of 10 from the field. Despite his contribution, he also had ten rebounds but committed seven turnovers.

During the game, the Thunder established a lead of 54-48 at halftime and further extended it to a commanding 20-point lead by the end of the third quarter.

This impressive 40-point game marked the fifth occurrence for Gilgeous-Alexander this season. Reflecting on his performance, he described it as "super fun." He credited his success to the abundance of talented teammates, allowing him to excel in his comfort zone and deliver remarkable performances.

Moving on to another game, the Milwaukee Bucks, who currently rank second in the NBA's Eastern Conference, demonstrated great resilience in their clash against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, they triumphed with a final score of 119-111.

Despite being behind at halftime with a score of 59-52, the Bucks dominated the third quarter, concluding their four-game road trip with three wins and one loss.

Antetokounmpo emerged as the top scorer for the Bucks, contributing 34 points by shooting an impressive 14 of 22 from the field. Moreover, he demonstrated his prowess by securing 16 rebounds and providing five assists. Damian Lillard also played a significant role, showcasing his skills with 31 points and perfect free throw conversion, going 11 for 11.

Lillard acknowledged that the Milwaukee Bucks had confronted their slow start through open and honest discussions during halftime.

"We entered the locker room and directly addressed the fact that we hadn't executed many things effectively," stated Lillard, highlighting his 24-point contribution in the second half.

"They began the game stronger than us. Our transition defense was lacking. They were able to find their desired positions and played comfortably. They are a formidable team," he explained.

Lillard and Antetokounmpo dominated the third quarter, each scoring 14 points, which significantly shifted the momentum in favor of the Bucks.

"It was a commendable performance on the road, especially at the end of a road trip, against a challenging team. We had to demonstrate our character, and I believe we did just that in the third quarter," Lillard added, praising the team's improved defensive efforts.

"We had to be connected as a unit, all five players on the court, and that's where we made the most progress. We executed together, communicated effectively, positioned ourselves correctly, and supported one another. We displayed much more consistency in these aspects during the second half," he concluded.

Donovan Mitchell made a comeback after missing four games, contributing 34 points, six rebounds, and nine assists for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are still without the injured Evan Mobley and Darius Garland.

The Boston Celtics, leaders of the Eastern Conference, maintained their flawless home record by securing a 120-118 victory over the Toronto Raptors, extending their winning streak to 16 games at home.

Sacramento Kings' De'Aaron Fox had an outstanding performance, scoring a total of 31 points, with an impressive 26 points in the second half alone. Despite a slow start, the Kings managed to turn the game around and defeat the Atlanta Hawks with a final score of 117-110. Fox's remarkable contribution included a career-high of eight successful three-pointers.

In a separate game, the San Antonio Spurs faced a loss against the Portland Trail Blazers with a score of 134-128. However, their number one draft pick, Victor Wembanyama, did not participate in the match due to the team's cautious approach of not playing him in consecutive games as he recovers from an ankle injury.

Spurs' head coach, Gregg Popovich, explained that the decision was made based on the advice of the medical staff. Wembanyama's playing time is currently limited, and he will not be participating in back-to-back games for a few weeks until further evaluation of his foot condition.
