NBA roundup: Towns drops 40 on Pacers, Durant hits 30k points in Suns' loss

Karl-Anthony Towns (29) delivered an impressive performance, scoring 40 points as the New York Knicks triumphed over the Indiana Pacers with a score of 128-115 in their latest encounter, which is part of the longstanding rivalry between the two teams in the NBA, held on Tuesday.

Towns showcased his versatility by contributing 12 rebounds, five assists, and three steals alongside his scoring, as the Pacers struggled to keep pace in front of their home fans.

The rivalry between the Pacers and Knicks is renowned for its intensity, peaking during the 1990s when the teams faced each other in the playoffs six times from 1993 to 2000.

On Tuesday, the Knicks secured the upper hand in their rivalry by winning the final matchup of the regular season, having previously split the first two games.

Supporting Towns, Josh Hart added 30 points, while Miles McBride contributed 15 points off the bench, including a flawless 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Jalen Brunson managed to score only eight points.

For the Pacers, Pascal Siakam led the scoring with 24 points.

With this victory, the Knicks improved their record to 35-18, maintaining their position in third place in the Eastern Conference, while the Pacers, now at 29-23, fell to fourth place.

In another matchup in the Western Conference, the second-placed Memphis Grizzlies secured a 119-112 victory against the Phoenix Suns on the road in Arizona.

Suns star Kevin Durant made history by becoming only the eighth player in NBA history to surpass 30,000 career points, scoring 34 points in the game. However, his individual achievements were insufficient to lead Phoenix to victory against a Grizzlies team that improved to 36-17 with this win.

Ja Morant led the scoring for Memphis with 26 points, while Desmond Bane added 20 points to support the offense.

Pistons 132-92 Bulls
The Detroit Pistons delivered a commanding performance in a decisive road victory against the Chicago Bulls, who found themselves trailing 71-29 at halftime.

Malik Beasley excelled off the bench, sinking seven three-pointers and establishing a new single-season record for the Pistons with 212 and counting, contributing 24 points to the team's total. Cade Cunningham also made a significant impact, adding 20 points as Detroit improved its record to 28-26, while the Bulls fell to 22-32.

Additionally, Cunningham achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the third fastest player in NBA history to reach 4,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 1,300 assists, accomplishing this feat in 187 games. The only players to achieve this faster are Oscar Robertson (131 games) and Luka Doncic (169 games).

Raptors 106-103 76ers
In other action on Monday, the struggling Philadelphia 76ers suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, losing at home to the Toronto Raptors.

The Sixers' disappointing performance was highlighted by Joel Embiid, whose critical turnover in the final moments of the game effectively sealed the victory for Toronto.

With Philadelphia trailing 105-103, Embiid found himself in a prime shooting position at the three-point line but opted to drive towards the basket, ultimately losing control of the ball.

Sixers coach Nick Nurse blamed his team's defeat on offensive shortcomings.

"It's no fun losing games. I do see some growth on things defensively, but the offense is pretty clunky right now," Nurse said.

"There were opportunities tonight - we just didn't shoot the ball very well."

Toronto improved to 17-37 with the win, while Philadelphia slumped to 20-33 and remain 11th in the Eastern Conference, outside the playoff places.
