New York Giants release QB Daniel Jones

The New York Giants have released quarterback Daniel Jones, the NFL franchise announced on Friday, following their fifth consecutive loss, which dropped them to 2-8.
The Giants confirmed this week that they would bench the former first-round choice in favour of backup Tommy DeVito following a 20-17 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers earlier this month in Munich.
They are coming off a bye week and will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.
"Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him. We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team," Giants owner John Mara said in a statement.
"We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him."
Jones has struggled all season, with 2,070 passing yards, seven interceptions, and only eight touchdowns.
He had publicly speculated about his future, telling reporters on Thursday: "This season has been disappointing for all, and of course I wish I could have done more."
