New York Jets part ways with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers

Former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers (41) has officially left the New York Jets, as announced by the National Football League (NFL) team on Thursday, indicating they are "moving in a different direction."
Rodgers participated in 17 games during the 2024 season for New York, making a comeback at the age of 40 following a ruptured Achilles tendon. The team concluded the season with a disappointing 5-12 record.
Despite his impressive performance, which included 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns—ranking as the third-best single-season statistics in the franchise's history—the organization has opted to part ways with the former Green Bay Packers star.
"It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures. We want to thank him for the leadership, passion, and dedication he brought to the organization and wish him success moving forward."
"It was crucial to have this conversation now to ensure clarity and allow each party adequate time to plan for their respective futures. We extend our gratitude to him for the leadership, passion, and commitment he brought to the organization and wish him success in his future endeavors."
Currently, the roster includes veteran Tyrod Taylor, Jordan Travis—a 2024 fifth-round pick from Florida State who was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list in August—and Adrian Martinez, who signed a futures contract in January. It is anticipated that the Jets will seek a new 'QB1' during the upcoming draft.
"I personally want to thank Aaron for his time at the New York Jets," said Chairman Woody Johnson in a statement released by the team. "His arrival in 2023 was met with unbridled excitement and I will forever be grateful that he chose to join us to continue his Hall of Fame career.
"From the very beginning, he exemplified what it means to be a New York Jet, engaged with our fans, and fully embraced our city. This is what I will cherish most when reflecting on his time here. He will always be welcomed, and I wish him nothing but the best in his future pursuits."
Rodgers has yet to comment on the move with his future in the league now under serious doubt. He was last pictured playing golf before the Pheonix Open last week.
