New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders advance to the MLS finals with victories over NYCFC and LAFC

The New York Red Bulls achieved an impressive 2-0 victory over their local rivals, New York City FC, in the MLS Eastern Conference semi-final on Saturday.
This win propels the Red Bulls into the conference final, where they will compete against the victor of the upcoming match between Orlando City and Atlanta United.
Felipe Carballo of Uruguay opened the scoring for the New Jersey team in the 16th minute of the "Hudson River Derby." He capitalized on a headed clearance that fell to him from over 20 yards out, skillfully controlling the ball before unleashing a powerful shot into the top corner of the net.
Just nine minutes later, the Red Bulls extended their lead. Following a corner taken by Emil Forsberg, the ball found Belgian forward Dante Vanzeir, who struck a precise, low shot that ricocheted in off the inside of the post.
Despite the Red Bulls' early dominance, the home side struggled to maintain control in a fast-paced match. Alonso Martinez had two chances before halftime, the first of which was thwarted by Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel after a close-range effort following good play from Kevin O'Toole. Martinez's second attempt, a flick from a dangerous low cross by James Sands, lacked the power to challenge Coronel significantly.
NYCFC came out with renewed vigor after the break, with Martinez forcing another save from Coronel in the 48th minute, followed by Keaton Parks heading over the bar shortly thereafter. Austrian Hannes Wolf also found himself in a promising position but sent his diagonal shot wide of the far post.
As the match progressed, NYCFC increased the pressure, yet they were unable to penetrate the resolute Red Bulls defense, bolstered by the strong performance of Paraguayan international Coronel.
Having been founding members of MLS in 1996, the Red Bulls have yet to secure an MLS Cup title, qualifying for the playoffs this year after finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference. "It was a significant victory today, but this is just the beginning. We must continue our hard work and take the next step next week," stated Sandro Schwarz, the German head coach of the Red Bulls.
Sounders Progress
In the Western Conference, LAFC's aspirations for a third consecutive MLS Cup final were thwarted by a 2-1 defeat in extra time against Seattle.
Both teams engaged in a measured possession game for the majority of the first half, with the first shot on goal not occurring until the 39th minute, when Obed Vargas attempted a strike from the edge of the box that posed little threat to Hugo Lloris.
Seattle mounted a period of pressure just before the half-time break, leading to Maxime Chanot clearing a shot from Jon Ball off the line following a chaotic moment in the penalty area.
However, LAFC, aiming for their third straight MLS Cup final, took the lead in the 50th minute when Mateusz Bogusz delivered a low cross from the right, allowing defender Ryan Hollingshead to time his run perfectly and finish with precision.
The advantage for LAFC was short-lived, as just nine minutes later, a low cross from Vargas was inadvertently turned into the net by sliding defender Maxime Chanot.
Jordan Morris then narrowly missed with a header for Seattle, while LAFC came close with a bicycle kick from Aaron Long, which required a commendable save from Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
Frei made a crucial save in extra time, using his trailing left leg to deny Bogusz as LAFC intensified their offensive efforts.
After dominating the initial period of extra time, Seattle secured the winning goal when a corner kick led to the ball falling to Morris at the back post, where he skillfully turned and scored.
Frei remained vigilant in the closing moments, making a near-post save to thwart a powerful shot from Hollingshead.
Despite finishing fourth in the Western Conference standings and having been winless in their last ten encounters with LAFC, Seattle managed to secure an unexpected victory.
The Sounders will face the winner of the upcoming match between Los Angeles Galaxy and Minnesota United.
