New Zealand name unchanged starting lineup for second Test against England

New Zealand has announced an unchanged squad on Thursday as they aim to rebound in the second Test against England, opting not to reinstate batsman Will Young or include a specialist spinner.
Following England's decision to field the same XI that secured an eight-wicket victory in the series opener in Christchurch, the Black Caps have chosen to maintain their lineup for the match commencing in Wellington on Friday.
The home side will rely on four seamers to lead their bowling attack, despite spin having played a crucial role in the previous Test at the Basin Reserve.
In March, Australia's Nathan Lyon claimed 10 wickets during a 172-run victory over New Zealand, and England will be counting on their own off-spinner, Shoaib Bashir, who took four wickets in the first innings in Christchurch.
Captain Tom Latham defended the choice to once again exclude the team's sole spinner, Mitchell Santner, who had been notably effective during the recent 3-0 series win in India.
Latham expressed his belief that the green pitch would favor pace bowlers, while also indicating that he has spinning all-rounders Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra as backup options should the pitch deteriorate.
"We observed last time that the wicket offered some spin, which took us by surprise," Latham remarked to the media.
"However, based on this surface and the first-class matches played here, we believe the balance we have chosen is appropriate for this wicket.
"We also have some spin options within the top seven."
Will Young, who was named player of the series against India after amassing 244 runs at an average just below 50, was replaced by the returning Kane Williamson in Christchurch.
Despite their recent struggles, opener Devon Conway and wicketkeeper Tom Blundell have retained their positions in the team.
"Will (Young) performed exceptionally well in India and certainly did nothing to warrant exclusion," Latham noted.
"The return of someone like Kane speaks volumes. Young is a valuable team player and will be prepared to seize any opportunity that arises in this series."
England's captain Ben Stokes has emphasized the competitive dynamic between Joe Root and Harry Brook, who currently hold the first and second positions in the latest ICC Test batting rankings.
Root, a seasoned veteran, maintains his position at the top, while Brook has ascended two spots to second place following his impressive score of 171 in Christchurch.
"They are both exceptional players," Stokes remarked.
"Joe Root brings a wealth of experience, while Harry Brook is just beginning what promises to be a remarkable international career after around 20 Test matches.
"The competition between them will continue for some time.
"Although they do not openly discuss it, Root is undoubtedly aware that he is ranked first, while Brook is in second place."
The third and final Test match is scheduled to take place in Hamilton, commencing on December 14.
New Zealand's lineup includes: Tom Latham (captain), Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell, Glenn Phillips, Nathan Smith, Tim Southee, Matt Henry, and Will O'Rourke.
England's team consists of: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes (captain), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, and Shoaib Bashir.
