Newcastle 4-0 Crystal Palace: Magpies cruise to victory as Sandro Tonali make an appearance from the bench

Newcastle United romped past Crystal Palace to move up to fifth in the Premier League.

The home team dominated from the start and took the lead in the fourth minute when Jacob Murphy lobbed home after the linesman's initial flag for offside on Kieran Trippier was shown to be incorrect.

After Anthony Gordon missed an open goal on the half-hour mark, the Eagles looked set to be very fortunate to go into half-time level, but Newcastle scored twice before the break to give them a lead that did not flatter them at all.

Gordon first made amends by volleying home Murphy's fine cross, and then, almost immediately after, Marc Guehi mis-controlled a long ball, which Sean Longstaff latched onto and slid home into the net.

The fourth goal came on the counterattack midway through the second half when Murphy curled a beautiful ball behind the Palace defense, which Callum Wilson calmly controlled and then calmly slipped into the back of the net.

Sandro Tonali was greeted with thunderous applause from the home crowd when he entered as a substitute despite the ongoing investigation into alleged illegal betting activity by the Italian Prosecutor's Office and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC),
