Newcastle boss Howe eager for Liverpool clash in EFL final, shifts focus to FA Cup

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has expressed his enthusiasm for facing Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
Howe made these remarks this morning in anticipation of their FA Cup fourth-round match against League One side Birmingham City scheduled for Saturday evening.
He stated, "This is an exciting match ahead. Liverpool performed as expected at Anfield, delivering a commendable performance. Regardless of the opponent, it was always going to be a significant challenge. We eagerly anticipate the encounter, but we must focus on the task at hand. That is our primary objective."
"We need to set aside our thoughts about the final. The greatest challenge lies in temporarily putting it out of our minds. Competing against teams like City, Liverpool, and Forest in the league requires our full attention. We must concentrate on each step leading up to the final."
When asked if he has envisioned himself lifting the trophy, Howe replied, "I haven't given it much thought. I quickly recognized the magnitude of our task for Saturday; it is essential to mentally recover and redirect our energy. We must view this as a significant challenge. I cannot dwell on future possibilities; it is time to return to work."
Regarding the match against Birmingham, Howe added, "We will need to make some rotations."
"It will be challenging to expect players to replicate the same level of energy as they did on Wednesday. Our squad is not extensive, but we will strive to select a team capable of securing a victory. Those players must seize their opportunities; they need to make the most of any chance they receive."
On Callum Wilson's return from injury during their Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Arsenal earlier in the week, Howe commented, "He appears to be in good shape. Callum is currently very confident in his physical condition. He has approached his recovery differently this time and has trained diligently. He feels robust, strong, and prepared to start matches."
"If he can maintain his fitness, he is an exceptional centre-forward. He possesses the experience, knowledge, strength, and goal-scoring ability. It would have been difficult to find a player of his caliber who is ready to compete."
England goalkeeper Nick Pope may also make an appearance tomorrow following his recovery from injury, alongside Wilson.
"Nick has demonstrated his motivation through his training," Howe remarked. "He is eager to compensate for the time he has missed. I believe he will view any opportunity as a chance to showcase his abilities as an exceptional goalkeeper."
Howe also commented on Newcastle's relatively quiet activity in the winter transfer market.
Regarding Kieran Trippier, the manager stated, "We had no desire to part ways with Kieran. He has faced a challenging season with several fitness setbacks that impeded his progress. Upon his return to the team, he displayed his true qualities. Competing and performing at a high level is quite challenging; it requires significant skill. He was outstanding against Arsenal."
"With Tino (Livramento) having an impressive season and (Emil) Krafth capable of playing as a right-back, we have strong competition in that position."
As Krafth's contract is set to expire in June, Howe noted, "I understand that discussions are ongoing. He is a player we wish to retain."
