Neymar Makes Long-Awaited Return for Al Hilal in AFC Champions League

Neymar (32) made his much-anticipated return to the pitch after a year-long absence due to injury, featuring for Al Hilal in their 5-4 victory over Al Ain in the AFC Champions League. The Brazilian star came on in the 77th minute, replacing Nasser Al Dawsari, just after Al Hilal extended their lead.

In one of his early touches, Neymar nearly scored with a left-footed cross, but his efforts helped see the Saudi club secure the win. This was Neymar’s first appearance since October 2023, when he tore his ACL while playing for Brazil in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay. Following surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation, he finally made his return to competitive football.

Neymar is expected to play a key role for Al Hilal in upcoming AFC Champions League matches, as well as in the Saudi King's Cup, before potentially rejoining the Brazilian national team in their November qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay.

Despite his Saudi League registration being pending until December 2024, Neymar remains eligible for international selection. Brazil’s coach, Dorival Junior, is set to announce the Selecao squad on November 1st, with Neymar aiming to be included. His next opportunity to impress comes in the King's Cup clash against Al Taee on October 29th, and again against Esteghlal in the AFC Champions League on November 4th.
