Brazil's leading goal scorer underwent surgery last month to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his left knee, sustained while on international duty in October.

Lasmar, the surgeon who performed the operation, stated that the player is not expected to recover until August and emphasized that they will not rush the process in order for him to participate in the tournament in the United States from June 20th to July 14th.

"We won't rush it; it's too early. There's no benefit in skipping steps to speed up recovery and taking unnecessary risks," Lasmar told Brazilian radio station Radio 98 FM.

"We anticipate his return at the beginning of the 2024 European season, which starts in August. Patience is key. Discussing a return before nine months is premature.

"It's crucial to allow the body the time it needs to build the ligament. We expect that after this period, he will have fully recovered."

Neymar joined the Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal in August but only played five matches due to struggles with muscle injuries.

Brazil has been placed in Group D for the Copa America alongside Colombia, Paraguay, and a CONCACAF qualifier.
