NFL announces game at Berlin’s iconic Olympic Stadium for 2025 season

The NFL has announced that it will host a regular season game in Berlin during the 2025 season, marking the fifth match to take place in Germany.

This announcement was made on Wednesday at a joint press conference with the Berlin Senate. Additionally, the league revealed plans to hold games in the capital in 2027 and 2029.

All three games are scheduled to occur at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin; however, the specific teams participating in the 2025 match and the date of the event have yet to be disclosed.

Berlin will become the third German city to host a regular season NFL game, following Munich and Frankfurt, which have each hosted two games to date.

Alexander Steinforth, the NFL's general manager in Germany, expressed that Berlin is an ideal location for the NFL. Iris Spranger, a Berlin senator responsible for sports, remarked, "It's a great day; we've been eagerly anticipating this. While Munich and Frankfurt are wonderful, Berlin is the capital."

Berlin submitted its bid to host NFL games in November, and reports indicate that the Berlin Senate plans to invest up to 12.5 million euros (approximately $13.2 million) in this initiative.

The Olympic Stadium, which opened for the 1936 Olympics and has a seating capacity of 74,500, offers a larger venue than the other two cities when configured for all-seated events.

It is frequently utilized for football matches and is home to the second division team Hertha Berlin. The stadium has previously hosted significant events, including the finals of the 2006 World Cup, the 2015 Champions League, and Euro 2024.

The NFL made its European debut in London in 2007 and has since expanded its reach to Mexico City and Sao Paulo, with Madrid also set to host a game in 2025.

The inaugural regular season game in Germany took place in Munich in 2022, featuring Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Seattle Seahawks. The NFL enjoys substantial television viewership in Germany, with demand for tickets consistently surpassing availability for all regular season games held in the country.
