NFL Playoffs: Bills edge Ravens in clutch win, Eagles survive Rams challenge

Josh Allen recorded two touchdowns as the Buffalo Bills capitalized on numerous errors to secure a 27-25 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, setting the stage for a highly anticipated NFL playoff matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

In a snowy Highmark Stadium in New York, Bills quarterback Allen powered through for two rushing touchdowns in the first half, while both he and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson lamented a series of critical mistakes.

The Ravens had a prime opportunity to equalize with under two minutes left, but tight end Mark Andrews mishandled a straightforward catch during a two-point conversion attempt, effectively sealing the Bills' triumph.

"How about that Buffalo Bills defense?" Allen remarked afterward. "Throughout the year, we have been told this team lacks talent, is too small, and cannot stop the run. We are not deemed good enough to compete.

"We simply focused and worked diligently - I am immensely proud of our defense."

The AFC divisional round matchup had been anticipated as a showdown between two of the NFL's most electrifying quarterbacks, featuring this season's Most Valuable Player frontrunner Allen against the reigning MVP Jackson of the Ravens.

However, the expected quarterback duel did not materialize in what turned out to be a gritty contest, ultimately determined by the Ravens' critical errors at pivotal moments.

A fumble by Jackson, following a sack from Damar Hamlin, led to Allen's first touchdown in the second quarter, giving the Bills a 14-7 lead.

Allen added his second rushing touchdown just before halftime, extending the Bills' advantage to 21-10 at the break.

The Ravens mounted a comeback with a field goal and a touchdown from Derrick Henry in the third quarter, narrowing the Bills' lead to three points.

Yet another turnover by the Ravens in the fourth quarter, with Andrews fumbling under pressure, allowed the Bills to kick a field goal, increasing their lead to 27-19.

Baltimore responded with a remarkable touchdown from Isaiah Likely, courtesy of a 24-yard pass from Jackson, but as overtime loomed, Andrews failed to convert the two-point attempt.

The Bills are set to face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the upcoming AFC Championship game, with the victor earning a spot in the Super Bowl on February 9 in New Orleans.

This matchup continues a heated rivalry between the two franchises, who have clashed three times in the playoffs since 2021, with the Chiefs emerging victorious each time.

Nevertheless, the Bills were one of only two teams to defeat the Chiefs during the regular season this year.

"We will savor this victory tonight and shift our focus to the Chiefs tomorrow," stated Allen. "They represent the standard of excellence in the NFL. To advance, you must overcome them."

Barkley Dominates Against Rams
Running back Saquon Barkley showcased his talent by scoring two touchdowns as the Philadelphia Eagles triumphed over the Los Angeles Rams with a score of 28-22 in snowy conditions, securing their place in the NFC Championship game.

Next Sunday, the Eagles will host their NFC East rivals, the Washington Commanders, for a chance to compete in the Super Bowl.

The Eagles' strength in the running game proved crucial in the challenging weather, with Barkley, a contender for the league's Most Valuable Player award, accumulating 205 yards on 26 carries.

Even before the snowfall began late in the first quarter, the Eagles exploited the Rams' run defense, initiating the scoring on their opening drive when quarterback Jalen Hurts dashed 44 yards for a touchdown.

The Rams responded swiftly, as quarterback Matthew Stafford orchestrated a 13-play, 67-yard drive culminating in a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Tyler Higbee.

Despite a week of preparation to counter Barkley's threat, the Rams were unable to contain him when he found a seam and raced 62 yards, putting the Eagles ahead 13-7 by the end of the first quarter.

As the snow intensified, the game evolved into a challenging contest, with the Rams narrowing the gap to a single point following their second field goal in the third quarter.

The Eagles increased their advantage with two field goals in the fourth quarter before Barkley ignited the offense once more with 4:36 remaining. The snow proved no hindrance to his strength and speed as he dashed 78 yards for his second touchdown.

However, the Rams were determined not to concede defeat, as Stafford connected with Colby Parkinson for a 4-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the deficit to six points.

The Rams had one final opportunity, aware that a touchdown would secure their comeback. Their hopes soared when Stafford delivered an impressive deep pass to Puka Nacua.

Yet, with time running out, Stafford was unable to complete the drive, leaving the Eagles just one victory away from a return to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years.

Barkley expressed that the snowy conditions did not diminish his enjoyment of the game.

"The elements were fantastic, but the atmosphere was even more remarkable. Our fans are incredible. It was a tight contest, but that’s playoff football, and ultimately, we accomplished our goal," he stated.

Hurts reflected on how the conditions reminded him of his childhood.

"I love playing football. As a kid, I would set the snow to maximum when playing video games. I always enjoyed that," he remarked.

However, Hurts concluded the game wearing a knee brace and, when inquired about his condition, simply stated, "I finished the game."
