NFL returns to Brazil: Los Angeles Chargers set to host 2025 season opener in Sao Paulo

The NFL is bringing regular-season action back to Brazil for the second year in a row, with São Paulo set to host a game during the opening week of the 2025 season. The league confirmed the news on Wednesday, marking another milestone in its international expansion.
The Los Angeles Chargers will serve as the home team for the highly anticipated matchup at Corinthians Arena on September 5, just a day after the official season opener. Their opponent is yet to be determined. This iconic stadium, which previously hosted matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, also made history in 2024 by staging the NFL’s first-ever regular-season game in South America.
"After a successful and memorable first game in Brazil in 2024, we are delighted to confirm the league's return to São Paulo with the Los Angeles Chargers as the designated team in what will be an incredible next chapter in the market," said NFL Brazil General Manager Luis Martinez.
As part of its growing global presence, the NFL will be able to schedule up to eight league-operated international games starting in 2025. So far, the league has confirmed three games in London, as well as matchups in Berlin, Madrid, and Dublin. Looking ahead, the NFL is also set to make history with its first-ever game in Australia in 2026.
With 55 international regular-season games played across cities like London, Munich, Frankfurt, São Paulo, Mexico City, and Toronto, the NFL continues to strengthen its global footprint. The return to Brazil signals the league’s commitment to expanding its reach and engaging fans worldwide.
