NFL roundup: Chiefs' unbeaten run ends in Buffalo, Seahawks defeat 49ers in thriller

The last remaining unbeaten team in the NFL has been defeated. The Kansas City Chiefs, who held a perfect record of 9-0 prior to Sunday, succumbed to the Buffalo Bills.

In a thrilling matchup, the Bills triumphed over Kansas City with a final score of 30-21. This marked the first loss for the Chiefs (9-1) against the Bills (9-2), who showcased their prowess at Orchard Park.

The Chiefs' undefeated streak had been precariously maintained in the previous week, thanks to a last-second blocked field goal against the Denver Broncos. However, the game in Buffalo began unfavorably for the reigning Super Bowl champions, as Patrick Mahomes threw an interception to Taylor Rapp on just his second pass.

The Bills responded effectively with a touchdown from James Cook, although kicker Tyler Bass missed the extra point, leaving the score at 6-0 in favor of Buffalo.

Kansas City quickly countered with a touchdown from Xavier Worthy, but James Cook soon added another touchdown for the Bills. The Chiefs regained momentum shortly, thereafter, capitalizing on an interception thrown by Josh Allen, leading to a touchdown from Noah Gray.

The Bills managed to reclaim the lead with a field goal, but the unpredictable nature of previous encounters between these two teams suggested that the final moments would be anything but certain.

With 15 minutes remaining, the Bills increased their advantage with a touchdown from Curtis Samuel, only for the Chiefs to narrow the gap again with a second touchdown from Gray.

The Bills maintained the initiative, regaining possession with just under eight minutes remaining in the game. A series of thrilling and pivotal moments ensued, culminating in Josh Allen's remarkable play, as he executed a perfectly timed breakaway and scored a touchdown on a crucial fourth down.

With over two minutes left, the Chiefs found themselves in a position where they required both a touchdown and a field goal to secure victory. However, even a team of their caliber was unable to meet this challenge.

It took the Chiefs 30 games to concede 28 points, marking a difficult day for them as they relinquished their unbeaten record and now face the Bills and Steelers as significant contenders in the AFC.

In the matchup between the Seattle Seahawks (5-5) and the San Francisco 49ers (5-5), the 49ers experienced an unexpected defeat at their home ground, Levi's Stadium, with the Seahawks emerging victorious at 20-17 following a late touchdown.

Throughout the game, both teams remained closely matched, consistently trading scores without either side managing to score consecutively without a response from the other.

The 49ers entered halftime with a narrow one-point lead, thanks to a touchdown from Brock Purdy, who ran 10 yards into the end zone, complemented by two field goals from Seahawks kicker Jason Myers.

After the break, 49ers kicker Jake Moody added a field goal to the score, but the Seahawks responded with Kenneth Walker securing Seattle's first touchdown of the day.

Jauan Jennings, stepping in for the long-injured Brandon Aiyuk, briefly became San Francisco's hero with a touchdown following a drive during which he caught three passes. Nevertheless, the Seahawks remained competitive and found it easier to penetrate the 49ers' defense after the injury to star player Nick Bosa.

With just over two and a half minutes remaining, Seattle seized the opportunity to mount a drive that could secure their victory. Geno Smith's squad navigated through several challenges and advanced into the red zone, where Smith took charge and clinched the game for the Seahawks with a decisive 13-yard rushing touchdown.

In the matchup between the Atlanta Falcons (6-5) and the Denver Broncos (6-5), the Broncos triumphed with a score of 38-6. The Denver team capitalized on a notably poor performance from the Falcons at their home ground, Empower Field at Mile High, showcasing a particularly strong outing from Bo Nix.

Nix delivered an impressive performance, completing 28 of 33 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns, marking the finest game of his young career against the Falcons, who managed only 226 yards of offense and scored their points solely through kicker Younghoe Koo.

In the first half, Nix connected on touchdown passes to Nate Adkins and Marvin Mims, while Javonte Williams also found the end zone for the Falcons, leading to a 21-6 advantage for Denver at halftime.

Following the break, Troy Franklin, who previously played alongside Nix at Oregon University, added another touchdown, and Lil'Jordan Humphrey contributed six more points to Denver's tally.

With this victory over Atlanta, the Broncos, under the leadership of Sean Payton—who previously secured a Super Bowl title with the New Orleans Saints—have achieved success in all their encounters against NFC South teams this season.
