NFL roundup: Lions hold off Bears' comeback to extend win streak to 10 games, Cowboys defeat Giants

The Detroit Lions narrowly escaped a late surge from the Chicago Bears, aided by a stroke of good fortune, to secure their tenth consecutive victory with a score of 23-20 on Thursday.
The initial matchup of three Thanksgiving Day games was intensely contested, ultimately coming down to the final moments. The Bears faltered during their last possession, enabling the Lions to achieve an 11-1 record for the first time in the franchise's history.
Detroit had established a commanding 16-0 lead by halftime, thanks to three field goals and a three-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Sam LaPorta.
However, the Bears mounted a vigorous comeback in the second half, scoring three touchdowns, two of which were the result of connections between quarterback Caleb Williams and receiver Keenan Allen.
When Williams connected with D.J. Moore for an impressive 31-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter, the Lions' lead was trimmed to just three points.
Chicago then forced Detroit to punt on their subsequent possession, giving Williams the opportunity to either tie the game or secure a victory.
Unfortunately, a series of penalties hindered the Bears' final drive. Despite Williams being sacked with 36 seconds remaining, a field goal opportunity was still within reach.
Instead of calling a timeout, the Bears' offense attempted to gain additional yardage for kicker Cairo Santos, which cost them valuable time.
The ball was snapped with only six seconds left, and Williams' pass fell incomplete as the clock expired.
The Bears, now on a six-game losing streak, appeared bewildered and frustrated.
"Suddenly, I saw everyone rushing onto the field, and the game was over. I was left thinking, 'What just happened?'" remarked Bears tight end Cole Kmet.
"I believe the intention was to gain some yards and then call a timeout to set up for the field goal. However, we were just a bit too late, and that ultimately became the final play," he added.
The Lions expressed visible relief after narrowly avoiding what would have been an unexpected defeat.
The conclusion of the game was intense, and we persevered until the very end to secure the victory. It was a daunting experience," Goff acknowledged.
"Our defense remained resilient. They are capable of bending without breaking, and they executed crucial plays in the final moments, leading us to triumph," he continued.
Goff completed 21 of 34 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while the running back duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery combined for 175 rushing yards.
In another matchup, the Dallas Cowboys faced off against the New York Giants in a classic NFC East rivalry, with both teams struggling through disappointing seasons.
Dallas claimed victory, marking their first home win of the season.
The 27-20 result extended their winning streak against the Giants to eight games, with both teams fielding backup quarterbacks.
Cooper Rush secured consecutive wins as he filled in for the injured Dak Prescott, while Drew Lock took over for the Giants in place of Tommy DeVito, who is sidelined due to an arm injury.
The Cowboys took a 13-7 lead when DeMarvion Overshown intercepted a pass from Lock and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.
Dallas asserted their dominance in the third quarter, as Rush connected with Brandin Cooks for a two-yard touchdown pass, followed by a four-yard rushing touchdown from Rico Dowdle, establishing a 17-point lead.
Lock, who faced six sacks during the game, demonstrated agility by scoring on an eight-yard run with 2:18 remaining, but the Cowboys effectively managed the clock to secure the win.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers achieved a decisive 30-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins, leaving the Florida team with a 5-7 record and their slim playoff aspirations hanging by a thread.
The Dolphins inadvertently provided the Packers with an early advantage when Malik Washington mishandled a punt following the home team's initial drive, granting Green Bay possession at Miami's 13-yard line.
Jordan Love connected with Jayden Reed for a three-yard touchdown pass, giving the Packers an early lead in Green Bay.
A one-yard rush by Josh Jacobs, along with another touchdown pass from Love to Reed, allowed the Packers to enter halftime with a commanding 24-3 lead.
