On Tuesday evening, the Chicago Blackhawks achieved a remarkable comeback victory against the Washington Capitals, while the Nashville Predators, currently the lowest-ranked team in the league, secured a shutout against the New York Rangers.
The Capitals initially took a 2-0 lead in the first period, with goals from Pierre-Luc Dubois (5) and Andrew Mangiapane (7). However, the Blackhawks countered with three consecutive goals, ultimately winning the match 3-2.
Ilya Mikheyev (4) initiated the scoring for the Blackhawks with a short-handed goal at the start of the third period, followed by contributions from TJ Brodie (2) and Ryan Donato (11), which solidified their victory.
The Capitals, now at 21-8-2, have dropped to second place in the Metropolitan Division, while the Blackhawks improved their record to 11-19-2.
In the matchup between the Predators and the Rangers, Nashville recorded their ninth win of the season against a Rangers team that is now on a three-game losing streak.
Jonathan Marchessault (8) opened the scoring for the Predators in the first period, and Adam Wilsby netted his first goal of the season in the third period, leading to a 2-0 victory.
Juuse Saros made 25 saves for the Predators, marking his third shutout of the season. The Rangers' record now stands at 15-15-1, placing them sixth in the Metropolitan Division.
In overtime action, the Boston Bruins triumphed over the Calgary Flames with a thrilling 4-3 victory, thanks to David Pastrnak's (12) game-winning goal with just 38 seconds remaining. The Flames had taken a 3-1 lead into the third period, with goals from Matt Coronato (8), Nazem Kadri (12), and Ryan Lomberg (1).
Nevertheless, Boston rallied with three unanswered goals to force overtime and secure their second consecutive win, improving their record to 17-13-3, while the Flames fell to 15-11-6.
Additionally, the Pittsburgh Penguins edged out the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in overtime, with goals from Evgeni Malkin (7), Matt Grzelcyk (1), and Rickard Rakell (14), who scored the decisive goal in overtime.
Pittsburgh's record now stands at 14-14-5, while the Kings maintain their second-place position in the Pacific Division
The Montreal Canadiens decisively defeated the Buffalo Sabres with a score of 6-1, while the Carolina Hurricanes achieved a shutout against the New York Islanders, winning 4-0.
The Tampa Bay Lightning triumphed over the Columbus Blue Jackets with a score of 5-3, and the New Jersey Devils reclaimed the top position in the Metropolitan Division following their 4-1 victory against the St. Louis Blues.
