NHL roundup: Blues shine in Winter Classic, Fowler nets two in milestone game

The St. Louis Blues concluded the year on a high note, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2 in this year's NHL Winter Classic, thereby enhancing their record to 3-0-0 in this traditional matchup.
Cam Fowler, a newly acquired defenseman, marked his 1,000th game with an impressive performance, scoring two goals. The Blues, now holding a record of 18-17-4, triumphed over the Blackhawks, who have suffered losses in all five Winter Classics they have participated in, bringing their record to 12-24-2.

In a third game, the Detroit Red Wings emerged victorious against the Pittsburgh Penguins with a score of 4-2. The Red Wings, now at 15-18-4, have secured two consecutive wins following a four-game losing streak, thanks to goals from Jonatan Berggren, Patrick Kane, J.T. Compher, and Dylan Larkin. Drew O'Connor scored both goals for the Penguins, who now have a record of 17-17-5.
With this victory, the Red Wings have claimed the season series against the Penguins, finishing with a 2-1 advantage for the 2024-2025 season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs (23-13-2) have returned to winning form with a 3-1 triumph over the New York Islanders (14-17-7), while the Montreal Canadiens (17-17-3) achieved a comeback by scoring three consecutive goals to secure a 3-2 victory against the Vegas Golden Knights (25-9-3), thereby extending their winning streak to three games.
In a surprising turn of events, the Anaheim Ducks (15-17-4) managed to defeat the New Jersey Devils (24-13-3) with a score of 3-2. Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars (22-13-1) ended the Buffalo Sabres' (14-20-4) three-game winning streak, winning decisively at 4-2.
The Philadelphia Flyers (17-17-4) delivered a commanding performance, shutting out the San Jose Sharks with a score of 4-0. This defeat marks the Sharks' eighth consecutive loss, leaving them with the worst record in the NHL at 11-23-6.
In an exciting matchup, the Minnesota Wild triumphed over the Nashville Predators with a score of 5-3, thanks in part to Marco Rossi's two goals.
