Sebastian Aho and Jordan Martinook each found the back of the net within nine seconds of each other in the final two minutes, propelling the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders in Raleigh, N.C., during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series on Monday.

With just 2:15 remaining in the game, Aho redirected Svechnikov's shot into the net, tying the game at 3-3. Martinook then secured the victory for Carolina with a goal at the 2:06 mark, capitalizing on a loose puck near the net. Guentzel sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute, making it 4-3.

Carolina's Seth Jarvis had an impressive performance, contributing a goal and two assists. Aho and Svechnikov also made significant contributions with two points and two assists respectively. Teravainen added another goal for Carolina. Andersen, the goalie, made nine saves to help his team secure the win.

New York's Anders Lee, Kyle Palmieri, and Bo Horvat were the goal scorers for their team, giving them a 3-0 lead in the second period. However, their efforts fell short as Carolina made a comeback. Varlamov, the goalie for New York, made 34 saves in the losing effort.

In another game, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Boston Bruins with a score of 3-2. Auston Matthews scored the winning goal with 7:54 left in regulation, completing his three-point performance for the night. Domi also contributed a goal and an assist, while Tavares added another goal for Toronto. Samsonov, the goalie for Toronto, made 27 saves to secure the victory.

For the Bruins, Geekie and Pastrnak were the goal scorers, giving them a 2-1 lead after the first period. Ullmark, the goalie for Boston, made 30 saves in the game. The series is now tied at 1-1 as the teams head to Toronto for the next game.

In the Western Conference, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings with a score of 7-4 in Game 1 of their playoff series. Hyman had an outstanding performance, scoring his first career playoff hat trick and earning four points. McDavid also had a remarkable game, recording five assists. Henrique, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, and Foegele also contributed goals for the Oilers. Bouchard had a career-best four assists, while Skinner made 33 saves in the victory.

The Golden Knights defeated the Stars 4-3, with Logan Thompson showcasing a strong performance by making 27 saves in his NHL playoff debut. Vegas kicked off their Stanley Cup title defense with a win in Game 1 of the Western Conference first-round series against Dallas.

Brayden McNabb, Mark Stone, Jonathan Marchessault, and Tomas Hertl found the back of the net for the Golden Knights, while Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin contributed with two assists each. This victory marked the first time Vegas had won Game 1 of a playoff series on the road.

On the other side, Mason Marchment, Jamie Benn, and Jason Robertson scored for the Stars, who hold the No. 1 seed in the West. Jake Oettinger made 11 saves and added an assist in the losing effort.
