NHL roundup: Columbus Blue Jackets pile up nine goals in rout of Buffalo Sabres

Kirill Marchenko notched a remarkable hat trick while the Columbus Blue Jackets, as the visiting team, netted seven consecutive goals on their way to a resounding 9-4 triumph over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.
In just 8 minutes and 7 seconds between the first and second periods, Marchenko achieved his second career hat trick. He showcased his skills once again by scoring three goals in the Blue Jackets' thrilling 4-3 shootout victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on January 7th of the previous season.
Contributing to the team's success, rookies Adam Fantilli, Kent Johnson, Sean Kuraly, and Cole Sillinger all made significant contributions by both scoring and assisting goals. Additionally, Erik Gudbranson added another goal to the scoreboard. Although the Blue Jackets fell just one goal short of their franchise-best total, which was set during a dominant 10-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on November 4, 2016.
On the other side, Rasmus Dahlin showcased his skills by recording a goal and an assist for the Sabres. Captain Kyle Okposo, Tage Thompson, and Dylan Cozens also contributed by tallying goals. Unfortunately, the Sabres have struggled in their recent games, losing eight out of their past eleven matches (3-7-1). Rookie Devon Levi faced a tough challenge, allowing four goals on 18 shots before being replaced by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who made 11 saves.

In Newark, N.J., Owen Tippett's overtime goal with 1:35 left secured the Philadelphia Flyers' third straight win, beating the New Jersey Devils. The victory improved the Flyers' record to 7-0-2 in their last nine games. Ryan Poehling scored two game-tying goals in the second period, helping the Flyers secure their seventh one-goal victory of the season. Mike McLeod and Jesper Bratt scored for the Devils, who lost their second straight game and fell to 8-3-1 in their past 12 games. Vitek Vanecek made 23 saves for the Devils.
Coyotes 4, Senators 3
In Tempe, Ariz., Michael Kesselring's game-winning goal and Jack McBain's goal and assist helped the Arizona Coyotes overcome a three-goal deficit to defeat the Ottawa Senators. J.J. Moser and Clayton Keller also scored for the Coyotes, who have won three consecutive games. Goalie Connor Ingram was pulled after allowing three goals on six shots, and Karel Vejmelka secured the win with 16 saves. Angus Crookshank, Josh Norris, and Dominik Kubalik scored for the Senators, who lost their fifth straight game and their first under new head coach Jacques Martin.
Wild 4, Bruins 3 (OT)
In a thrilling overtime finish in Boston, Kirill Kaprizov's second goal of the night, assisted by Joel Eriksson Ek, secured a comeback win for the Minnesota Wild against the Bruins. Ryan Hartman and Marcus Johansson also scored for the Wild, who have won four of their last five games. Brad Marchand's late goal forced overtime for the Bruins, who got a strong performance from goalie Linus Ullmark with 26 saves.
Hurricanes 6, Golden Knights 3
The Carolina Hurricanes dominated the Vegas Golden Knights in Raleigh, N.C., with Michael Bunting's goal and two assists leading the charge. Andrei Svechnikov, Brady Skjei, Jordan Staal, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and Seth Jarvis also scored for the Hurricanes, matching their highest goal total of the season. William Carrier scored twice and Jack Eichel added another for the Golden Knights, who suffered their second loss in three games despite holding the NHL's highest point total.

Nikita Kucherov's two goals led the Tampa Bay Lightning to a convincing win over the St. Louis Blues. The New York Islanders defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in Elmont, N.Y., with a strong second period performance. Anders Lee and Bo Horvat scored power-play goals, and Simon Holmstrom added a short-handed goal to cap off the scoring for the Islanders. Ilya Sorokin made 30 saves after allowing an early goal to Leon Draisaitl. Stuart Skinner made 17 saves for the Oilers, who have now lost three straight games after an eight-game winning streak.
Canucks 5, Predators 2
The Vancouver Canucks secured a 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators, with goals from Elias Pettersson, Pius Suter, Nils Aman, Nils Hoglander, and Teddy Blueger. Jacob MacDonald scored the lone goal for the Sharks, breaking Rittich's shutout bid with just over a minute left in the game. Kaapo Kahkonen made 35 saves for the Sharks in the losing effort.
