Late in the third period, Jamie Benn scored a power-play goal that broke the tie and ultimately led the Dallas Stars to a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, securing their spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Roope Hintz scored one goal and provided two assists, while Jason Robertson and Benn each contributed one goal and one assist for the Stars, who currently hold the top spot in the Western Conference standings.

Goaltender Jake Oettinger made 27 saves, and Joe Pavelski assisted on two goals. Benn's goal marked his seventh consecutive goal in six games and his 18th of the season.

He also extended his point streak to eight games, accumulating seven goals and 12 points.

Additionally, his assist on Hintz's goal in the first period brought his career points total to 900.

J.T. Miller scored for the Canucks, who lead the Pacific Division but have suffered two consecutive regulation losses. Goalie Casey DeSmith made 31 saves.

Hurricanes blanked the Red Wings 4-0 in Raleigh, N.C., with Frederik Andersen recording his second shutout in five games.

Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis each contributed a goal and two assists, while Martin Necas and Brady Skjei also scored for Carolina.

The Red Wings have lost three straight games and are winless in their last eight road games, with James Reimer making 29 saves.

The Rangers edged the Avalanche 3-2 in a shootout, with Igor Shesterkin making 39 saves and Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck scoring in the shootout.

Kaapo Kakko and Chris Kreider scored in regulation for New York, who secured their fourth consecutive win.

Arizona defeated Nashville 8-4, ending the Predators' 18-game point streak, with Nick Bjugstad netting the game-winning goal and Logan Cooley recording his first career hat trick.

Jason Zucker scored twice for the Predators after being traded from the Coyotes earlier in the season.

Minnesota's Matt Boldy secured the go-ahead goal early in the third period, leading the Wild to a victory over San Jose in Saint Paul, Minn.

In addition to Boldy's goal, Joel Eriksson Ek and Ryan Hartman also found the back of the net for the Wild, who ended their two-game losing streak.

Kirill Kaprizov contributed two assists, while Mikael Granlund scored the lone goal for San Jose.

With the loss, the Sharks now hold the worst record in the NHL, having gone 0-8-1 in their last nine games. Jan Rutta and Marc-Edouard Vlasic each provided an assist for San Jose.
