NHL roundup: Devils edge Blackhawks, Canucks fight back to defeat Islanders

On Wednesday night, four games took place in the National Hockey League (NHL). Below is a summary of the two earlier contests, where both the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks achieved away victories, each scoring five goals.
In a crucial matchup for their playoff aspirations, the New Jersey Devils triumphed over the Chicago Blackhawks with a score of 5-3. Nathan Bastian opened the scoring just 6:23 into the game, giving the Devils an early lead. Only 27 seconds later, Timo Meier extended that lead by scoring during a New Jersey power play.
Chicago managed to respond just before the first period concluded, with Tyler Bertuzzi finding the net on a power play. However, the Devils quickly regained their two-goal advantage when Ondrej Palat scored while shorthanded, making it 3-1 for the visitors. The Blackhawks fought back, with Ilya Mikheyev netting their second goal five minutes into the second period.
Despite the pressure, the Devils maintained their composure and added a fourth goal with nine minutes remaining in the second period, courtesy of Dawson Mercer, who also scored on a power play.
The Blackhawks pulled one back in the final three minutes, as Frank Nazar scored, creating a tense finish. Nevertheless, New Jersey held their ground, and Stefan Noesen sealed the victory with an empty-net goal just seconds before the final buzzer.
With this win, the Devils ended a three-game losing streak and currently sit sixth in the Eastern Conference, nine points clear of the ninth position. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks remain near the bottom of the Western Conference and are set to miss the playoffs.
The Vancouver Canucks maintained their position in the playoff hunt with a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders. Following a scoreless first period, Kiefer Sherwood opened the scoring for the Canucks just 2:39 into the second period.
However, the Islanders quickly equalized three minutes later with a goal from Casey Cizikas. Anthony DeAngelo then put the Islanders ahead midway through the period, prompting the Canucks to respond swiftly.
With six minutes remaining in the second period, Aatu Raty leveled the score once again, but Derek Forbort soon netted what would become the decisive goal for the Canucks.
Just a minute into the third period, Teddy Blueger extended the lead to 4-2, leading to a goaltending change for New York. Ultimately, Vancouver managed to secure the win, with Sherwood sealing the game with an empty-net goal two minutes before the final buzzer.
Having won two consecutive games, the Canucks are now just three points behind the St. Louis Blues for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Islanders, who are also striving for a top-eight finish, remain one point and one position behind the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference.
