NHL roundup: Florida Panthers top New York Rangers in heavyweight clash

In a clash between the top teams of the Eastern Conference divisions, the Florida Panthers extended their winning streak with a 4-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday night. Ryan Lomberg proved to be the difference-maker, netting the decisive goal in the early stages of the third period. The visiting Panthers showcased their dominance and determination, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with in the league.

Sam Reinhart netted two goals, both on impressive feeds from Aleksander Barkov, propelling the Panthers to their fifth consecutive victory. This win marks their 15th triumph in 17 games (15-2-0), keeping them two points clear of the Boston Bruins in the Atlantic Division and bolstering their NHL-leading points total to 88.

On the other side, Will Cuylle and Chris Kreider scored power play goals for the Rangers, who have stumbled with two consecutive losses and three defeats in their last four outings (1-3-0). Despite this, New York maintains a six-point lead over the idle Carolina Hurricanes in the Metropolitan Division.

Sergei Bobrovsky stood tall in net for the Panthers, making 26 saves, while Igor Shesterkin turned away 25 shots in the losing effort for the Rangers.

In another game, the Bruins dominated the Maple Leafs with a 4-1 victory. Pavel Zacha notched two goals, Jeremy Swayman made 32 saves, and Boston continued its dominance over Toronto, improving to 3-0 against them this season.

Adding to Boston's success, Jake DeBrusk contributed a goal and an assist, with David Pastrnak tallying three assists and Morgan Geekie also finding the back of the net. John Tavares scored the lone goal for the Maple Leafs, while Joseph Woll made 26 saves.

Meanwhile, the Avalanche shut out the Blackhawks 5-0, with Nathan MacKinnon leading the charge with two goals and two assists. Cale Makar and Jonathan Drouin each added a goal and an assist, while Justus Annunen made 37 saves for Colorado.

Zach Parise also scored for the Avalanche, while Petr Mrazek stopped 32 shots for the Blackhawks. This loss marks the second shutout the Blackhawks have suffered against the Avalanche in five days, extending their losing streak to seven games (0-5-2). Chicago has not won a road game since November 9th against Tampa Bay, enduring a 22-game winless streak on the road (0-21-1).
Alexander Nylander notched his first career hat trick, propelling the host Columbus to a victory over the struggling Vegas.

Justin Danforth, Erik Gudbranson, and Yegor Chinakhov also found the back of the net for Columbus, which secured back-to-back wins for the third time this season, breaking a streak that had lasted since November 22-24. Daniil Tarasov stood tall in goal, turning aside 37 of 40 shots to improve his season record to 5-8-2.

On the other side, Chandler Stephenson contributed a goal and an assist, while Mason Morelli and William Karlsson also scored for Vegas. However, the Golden Knights suffered their sixth loss in seven games (1-5-1) and their eighth defeat in the last 10 games (2-7-1).
Jared McCann scored a goal and added an assist to lead the visiting Seattle past Calgary, putting an end to the Flames' season-best, five-game winning streak.

Yanni Gourde, Oliver Bjorkstrand, and Adam Larsson also tallied goals for Seattle, which secured its third win in four games. Philipp Grubauer made 35 saves, including a crucial reach-back effort when the game was 3-2 midway through the third period.

Andrei Kuzmenko scored both goals for the Flames. With 21 games remaining in the regular season, both teams are seven points out of a playoff spot.
Pavel Buchnevich scored in the fourth round of a shootout to lift St. Louis over host Philadelphia in a tightly contested game dominated by strong defensive play and goaltending.

The Blues' lone goal in regulation came from Kevin Hayes, who was acquired from the Flyers in a trade last June. Scott Laughton scored the regulation goal for the Flyers, while Morgan Frost was the only Philadelphia player to find the net in the shootout.

St. Louis goaltender Jordan Binnington made 40 saves, while Samuel Ersson stopped 24 shots in the loss for Philadelphia.
