NHL roundup: Hurricanes storm to fourth consecutive win with dominant seven-goal performance

The Carolina Hurricanes achieved a remarkable feat by scoring five consecutive goals during the second period, ultimately securing a 7-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets and extending their winning streak to four games.
After the Blue Jackets established a 2-0 advantage in the first period, the Hurricanes mounted a strong comeback with five unanswered goals in the second.
The goal scorers for the Hurricanes included Seth Jarvis (18), who netted both the first and last goals for the team, along with Eric Robinson (11), Jackson Blake (11), Sebastian Aho (15), Jordan Martinook (9), and Jesperi Kotkaniemi (10).
During this winning streak, the Hurricanes have maintained a +6 point differential. In contrast, the Blue Jackets have suffered losses in three of their last four matches.
In another matchup, the Edmonton Oilers avenged their recent defeat to the Vancouver Canucks by decisively winning 6-2. The Oilers surged to a 5-0 lead before the Canucks managed to score two consecutive goals, which proved insufficient.
The Oilers have now triumphed in five of their last seven games, while the Canucks have faltered, losing four of their last five.
The New York Rangers also demonstrated their offensive prowess, scoring six goals in a commanding 6-1 victory over their division rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers. Following an initial goal by Owen Tippett (14) for the Flyers, the Rangers responded with six consecutive goals.
With this performance, the Rangers have extended their point streak to ten games, bolstered by an outstanding showing from goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who recorded 33 saves.
The Boston Bruins achieved a 2-0 shutout against the Ottawa Senators, avenging their earlier loss on January 18th. Additionally, the Utah Hockey Club pulled off an upset against the Minnesota Wild with a 4-0 shutout, marking their third consecutive victory after a previous three-game losing streak.
The Detroit Red Wings triumphed over the Montreal Canadiens with a score of 4-2, thereby ending their three-game losing streak, while the Vegas Golden Knights also secured a 4-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues, concluding their four-game losing streak.
The Calgary Flames continue to perform well, having secured victories in five of their last seven matches, including a 5-2 triumph over the Buffalo Sabres.
In other notable games, Alexander Ovechkin added to his scoring tally as the Washington Capitals defeated the Seattle Kraken with a score of 3-0. Meanwhile, the Anaheim Ducks achieved a commanding 5-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins. In a closely contested match, the Nashville Predators narrowly overcame the San Jose Sharks with a score of 6-5.
