NHL roundup: Jets extend win streak, Rangers suffer fourth consecutive loss

The Winnipeg Jets extended their winning streak, while the Rangers experienced a contrasting outcome during a relatively subdued night in the NHL on Monday, with only three games played ahead of a significant 13-game schedule set for tomorrow.

The Jets (27-10-1) achieved their fourth consecutive victory with a 3-0 scoreline, highlighted by two power-play goals from Gabriel Vilardi (16) following Dylan DeMelo's first goal of the season.

The Predators (11-19-7) were unable to capitalize on their two power-play opportunities and have now recorded a 4-5-1 record over their last ten games.

This marks the sixth occasion this season that the Predators have been shut out, while the Jets have now achieved their fifth shutout.

In another matchup, the Panthers triumphed over the Rangers with a score of 5-3. The Panthers (23-13-2) narrowly secured victory against a struggling Rangers (16-19-1) team that is desperately seeking a win.

Florida opened the scoring with goals from Eetu Luostarinen (6) and Mackie Samoskevich (7), but the Rangers responded with two unanswered goals from Filip Chytil (7) and Ryan Lindgren (2) to level the game in the second period.

The tie lasted only 38 seconds before Jesper Boqvist netted the go-ahead goal for Florida. Chris Kreider (12) equalized for the Rangers on a power play, but Boqvist (7) quickly restored Florida's lead. Aleksander Barkov (11) sealed the game with an empty-net goal, condemning the Rangers to their fourth consecutive loss, leaving them with a dismal 2-8-0 record in their last ten games.

In the final game, the Kraken defeated Utah 5-2 in a contest between the NHL's newest franchises. The Kraken (17-19-2) secured their second consecutive win after Utah (16-14-6) managed to tie the game at 2-2 in the second period. The Kraken then scored three unanswered goals, making a comeback impossible for their opponents.

Newly acquired Kaapo Kakko contributed two assists for Seattle, while Jaden Schwartz (12) scored a goal and provided two assists. The two teams are scheduled to meet again on March 14, 2025.
