Alexander Ovechkin, the star player of the Washington Capitals, made his return to the ice after an extended injury absence.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Kraken and Los Angeles Kings secured victories in overtime during a bustling Saturday in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Los Angeles Kings 4-3 Edmonton Oilers (OT)
The Los Angeles Kings engaged in a competitive matchup against the Edmonton Oilers at home, ultimately achieving a 4-3 victory in overtime.

The Oilers struck first, with Kasperi Kapanen finding the net at 9:43 of the first period. The Kings quickly responded, as Quinton Byfield equalized just three minutes later. By the end of the first period, the Kings led 2-1, thanks to a goal from Warren Foegele.

In the second period, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins leveled the score at 3:20 with a power play goal, only for Viktor Arvidsson to restore the Oilers' lead with 8:01 remaining in the period. The Kings were once again challenged to equalize.

They succeeded in doing so early in the third period, with Tanner Jeannot scoring to make it 3-3. The score remained unchanged through the remainder of the period, necessitating overtime to determine the winner.

In the extra session, Byfield quickly netted his second goal of the game, securing the victory for the Kings.

With this win, the Los Angeles Kings moved into fifth place in the Western Conference, tying on points with the Edmonton Oilers.

Vancouver Canucks 4-5 Seattle Kraken (OT)
The Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Kraken also required overtime to decide the outcome of their match, with the Kraken ultimately claiming a 5-4 victory, marking their 16th win of the season. This game featured a remarkable comeback by the Kraken.

Brock Boeser opened the scoring for Vancouver with a goal four minutes before the end of the first period. Matthew Berniers equalized just 78 seconds into the second period, but the Canucks then went on a scoring run.

Conor Garland initially restored his team's lead at 8:36 of the second period, followed by Boeser netting his second goal later in the same period. By the time Jake DeBrusk contributed his team's fourth goal of the evening, it appeared that the home team was on track for an easy victory. However, the Kraken had different plans.

With 4:45 remaining in the game, Jaden Schwartz scored, reigniting hope for Seattle. In a remarkable sequence, Vince Dunn and Jaden Schwartz found the net within just 22 seconds towards the end of the game, completing an impressive comeback for the visitors. Just 2:15 into overtime, Dunn scored again, securing a 5-4 victory for the Kraken as they departed Canada.

As a result, Vancouver remains in seventh place, while Seattle trails the Dallas Stars by seven points for the final playoff position in the Western Conference.

In another matchup, the Washington Capitals triumphed over the Toronto Maple Leafs with a score of 5-2, bolstered by the return of their captain, Alexander Ovechkin.

The game began with an early lead for Toronto, as John Tavares scored just 3:14 into the match. However, this advantage was short-lived, as Andrew Mangiapane equalized 92 seconds later. Jakob Chychrun then put Washington ahead for the first time at the 8:54 mark of the first period.

Bobby McMann leveled the score again 8:10 into the second period, but the Capitals quickly responded through Nic Dowd, who scored less than two minutes later to regain the lead. Washington maintained this advantage throughout the remainder of the game.

Tom Wilson extended the Capitals' lead with 7:24 left in the contest, placing the Leafs in a challenging situation. As Toronto sought to score and regain hope, Ovechkin sealed their fate with a fifth goal.

This victory allowed Washington to create further distance from the Leafs in the Eastern Conference standings, now leading by four points.
